Twerking: Here to Stay?

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Suffolk chapter.

What was once a simple booty shake has now made a name for itself. That name is “twerking.” For some reason, this is a dance that everyone seems to be catching on to and making their own. We see it everyday, from the club, to the streets, from YouTube, to Vine and Instagram. Even celebrities  such as Miley Cyrus, Amber Rose, and Leona Lewis have twerked their way to further fame by just a shake of their butts.

In my opinion, we have better and more important things to be talking about than this overnight fame dance. Jimmy Kimmel seemed to have a similar opinion when he came up with the ploy to prank all of America with one of the best twerk fails ever to see how much more media attention it got over other happenings in the world at the time. Check out the video below to see his plan come to life. And make sure to take a look at some of the other twerking videos too!

My question is, with so many people following this new trend just like we saw with the Harlem Shake and Gangham Style, is this just a phase, or is twerking here to stay? What do you guys think, overrated and overdone, or the new staple dance move that is here to stay?
