The Golden Globes took place last Sunday, and with stars from TV and movies all in one place along with plenty of alcohol, there was no shortage of memorable moments. Tina Fey and Amy Poehler hosted for the second year in a row and did not disappoint. Breaking Bad got the recognition it hoped for in its last season, and 12 Years a Slave won for Best Drama. Poehler won her first Golden Globe for Parks & Recreation. Finally, there were plenty of hilarious acceptance speeches as always. Here are five of the best moments from the show.
1. Jennifer Lawrence Photobombing Taylor Swift
One of the best moments of the night happened before the show even began, and it was just another example of Jennifer Lawrence being, well, Jennifer Lawrence. While Ryan Seacrest was interviewing T. Swift, J. Law climbed up the stairs with a creepy smile and onto the platform. She then hugged Taylor (who is apparently friends with everyone, by the way), and said, “I was going to come in and push you down the stairs…She would really love that.” Spoken like a true best friend.
2. Emma Thompson
“Emma Thompson is my spirit animal,” said most women watching the Golden Globes. The British actress, who played the bitter author of Mary Poppins in Saving Mr. Banks, livened up the somewhat dull show when she came onstage holding her Loubitoutins in one hand and a martini in the other. “I just want you to know, this red, it’s my blood,” she said about the red-bottomed shoes as she sipped her drink. Basically, Emma Thompson gets it.
3. Glasses
Glasses had a huge moment at this year’s Golden Globes. Meryl Streep, Martin Scorsese, Diane Keaton, Manny from Modern Family, and Kevin Bacon all rocked stylish eyewear. Sure, quirky directors have always worn glasses, but now the biggest stars are rocking them, too. Plus, Matt Damon forgot his and couldn’t read the prompter, so it was pretty much a big night for glasses.
4. Amy Poehler as “Randy”
As Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick introduced their daughter as Miss Golden Globes, Amy Poehler kind of stole the moment. Just as the show was getting a little boring (as was the case several times throughout the night), Tina Fey interrupted to introduce Mr. Golden Globe, Amy Poehler dressed as “Randy,” her “adult son from a previous relationship.” “Your name is Sochi?” Poehler asked Miss Golden Globes. “What are you, the Olympics?” Poehler then confronted Idris Elba and then Harvey Weinstein to ask if one of them was her father. Amy, you are incredible.
5. The Opening
Tina and Amy started the show off with a funny but typical note, doing the usual point-out-the-most-famous-people-in-the-room bit. “No offense to the movies and nominees last year, but this year’s legit,” said Tina of the more famous than usual attendees. They pointed out Julia Louis-Dreyfus sitting in the “movie section,” though she was nominated for Veep and her film Enough Said. They also made fun of Tom Hanks a few too many times, although it definitely worked. On the second time hosting for the duo Amy said, “This is Hollywood, so if something kind of works, they’ll just keep doing it until everyone hates it.” Can’t wait for next year when they make it three in a row.
