If there is one person on campus that completely embodies “Bronco Pride”, that person is Edel Serafin. His passion for this university is clear in the briefest encounter with him. This week, Her Campus Boise State got the chance to sit down with Edel and learn a little more about what drives him in his incredibly enthusiastic campus life.
Quick Facts:
Age: 23.
Major: History, with a minor in Latin American Studies.
Hometown: Los Angeles, CA.
HC Boise State: So, how was your winter break?
Edel Sarafin: Not eventful. It was nice to be able to relax and hang out with friends, but there isn’t as much to do, not like summer break, anyway. But it was pretty good overall.
HC:Â Tell us about all the things you are involved with on campus.
ES: I’m a part of the FTKrew for the Dance Marathon. I participated last year and stayed up all night long for it and I’m ready to do it again this year! I am also the Advocacy Chair for Relay for Life. My grandfather passed away from cancer and it is a really great cause that I am happy to be a part of. Last year I helped establish the first chapter of a brand new fraternity on the Boise State campus, Pi Kappa Phi. It’s been a lot of work, but it’s been super fun because I get to work with some really great guys.
HC: What inspired you to establish a chapter of Pi Kappa Phi at BSU?
ES: I had looked into Greek life a lot before and I have always wanted to join, but was too busy when I was cheerleading. I have a brother and a sister involved in Greek life so I knew that joining a fraternity would have a lot of benefits. When I heard that Pi Kappa Phi was coming to Boise State, I figured “why not?”, took charge, and just went for it!
HC: What’s on the horizon for you this semester? Any big things coming up?
ES: Well, I actually was just in a commercial for the university that is going to be released this semester. It is aimed at high school students. I was also one of the students selected to go to the Boise State Day at the Capitol Building, which is really exciting. We’ve got a couple big events for my fraternity coming up as well. And I’ll be waiting to hear back from some summer research internships that I applied for.
HC: Anything else that you want our readers to know about you?
ES: I am very proud of the fact that I am one of the first people in my family to attend a four-year university. I have a lot of younger cousins that are looking up to me and I am glad that I can be some sort of a role model for them. I am also proud to have been part of a D1 cheerleading squad here at BSU. I got to experience things that most students don’t, like going to away games and bowl games. Those are memories that I will never forget.
