Quick and Easy: Everyday School Makeup

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UC Riverside chapter.

We all know how difficult it is to try to wake up in the morning extra early just to put on makeup and try to look rather cute for school. As most of you may think, “ain’t nobody got time for that”. Well I have to say I am the first to say, I absolutely love my beauty sleep! I cannot function without my 8 hours of sleep. I believe well rest is a major requirement for having a productive day, looking pretty and being healthy. However, I know many of us do not care what we look like while going to lecture, or discussion. But hey, as a single gal myself, I am always concerned of any encounters I might have with our “campus cuties”, and wouldn’t want to be caught dead with the look that I stayed up all night cramming for a test. I always joke around with my girls and say, “hey you never know, my future husband may be in my  discussion class, and I wouldn’t want to ruin a good impression by showing up to class looking like I just rolled out of bed”. Because we all know that’s not cute! I’m sure many of you will agree, that moment that you walk into class and the cute guy is looking in your direction, everything suddenly stops, until, you suddenly wish you would’ve woken up earlier to look more put together. It has happened to me plenty of times before I tell you! Trust me when I tell you, I am all about that natural beauty. But hey, makeup is an enhancer of your gorgeous face! So, I have come up with the best quick and easy makeup routine for school! This very quick natural look with minimal makeup, will enhance the best assets on your pretty little face! Now, some of the products I have in my personal vanity may be a little high end, however I show you some drugstore alternatives I love myself. I am sure this will work for all of you and you can thank me later, when that cute guy in class is looking in your direction! And when he does, because believe me he will, don’t be afraid to smile, and be proud because girl you look cute!

– A little tinted moisturizer, or BB Cream never hurt anyone, not only is it going to be moisturizing your face which is essential in this dry Riverside weather, but it will help even out your skin tone, and it will look like you’re not wearing any foundation. I use the Laura Mercier oil-free tinted moisturizer. It definitely makes your skin look healthy and glowy, without making you look oily! My drugstore alternative is the Garnier tinted moisturizer, which you can pretty much purchase at any drugstore.

-Concealer, It is a must in my makeup routine, I can’t be caught dead without wearing concealer! Unfortunately, I have extremely bad under eye dark circles, (forgive me its hereditary) and sometimes if I feel like skipping a tinted moisturizer or foundation, and I only have limited time in getting ready, concealing any dark circles is an absolute must. My tried and true concealer is the Mac pro longwear concealer. However, the maybelline fit me concealer works wonders as well, especially for a drugstore alternative.

-Mascara: making sure you curl your lashes a little and applying mascara is essential in making you look wide awake. I have very short lashes, and length and volume is a must for me. I have recently been loving Benefit’s “they’re real” mascara. It works wonders for girls like me with  short eyelashes! However, I am also a big fan of the L’oreal  telescopic carbon black mascara for length, and the L’oreal voluminous full definition for  volume! These, you can find at your local drugstore.

-Blush, I feel like a little bit of blush can never do you wrong, it will make your cheeks look glowing and is a must in my book. For school days I love wearing Mac’s warm soul. Its a very shimmery color, but I just love it. I personally feel like this blush is great any time of the year, and looks great on all skin tones! A great drugstore alternative is Milani Baked Blush in Luminoso.

-Lips, you can never go wrong with some tinted lip moisturizer, I love the Fresh Sugar lip treatment, or any chapstick can do!

These steps shouldn’t take you more than 10 minutes, tops! You can skip any of these steps, even add a little grooming to your eyebrows and you will be good to go! I promise you, with this very minimal makeup, your effortless beauty will be turning heads!
