I have a passion for food and how it brings people together. This year, as I discovered that there was a world outside of CMU’s campus, I stumbled upon the perfect example of food creating community. It is called Pierogi night. Anyone who enjoys good food and company should attend.

Let me explain. Pierogi Night occurs once every month in the Stephen Foster Community Center in Lawrenceville. During this event, two types of pierogies and another type of food are served. At the end of your meal you decide whether the pierogies of the other type of food had the better flavor. It is a fun bonus to the meal to debate with your table and decide who won the “food fight”.  All of the food is deliciously vegan and for ten dollars, you eat until you are completely satisfied.

Past “food fights” have included Pierogies vs. Arepas, Pierogies vs. Noodles, and Pierogies vs. Burgers.

The Pierogi Night staff is dedicated and friendly. They will happily explain each part of the meal over and over again to each hungry customer. Many of the staff members are also Carnegie Mellon students.

The picture above contains two roasted beet, potato and turnip green pierogies, two sauerkraut and mushroom pierogies, a cup of Tom Kha (coconut milk, napa cabbage, bok choy and shiitake mushrooms), a cup of zucchini and roasted cauliflower soup, and a slice of homemade seed bread!

In summary, you should attend Pierogi Night because of all you can eat food, a dedicated staff that includes many Carnegie Mellon students, and a desire to referee a delicious “food fight”.
