Links We Love 1.31.14

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Bentley chapter.

Happy New Year Collegiettes, and Welcome Back! Congratulations—you’ve officially made it through the first couple weeks of the semester, and the insanity that Bentley likes to call “Saturday make up classes.”

As we all come down from our post-holiday highs and settle back into our typical routines, it’s easy to catch a case of the winter blues. With frigid temperatures and gloomy snow days, I have to admit I myself have fallen into a bit of a funk. Let’s be honest, I’m a Florida girl at heart and the thought of leaving the couch to brave the Polar Vortex is less than appealing—especially when all my shows are back from their mid-season hiatuses. Why would I want to do something productive when I can spend quality time with Juan Pablo and the Kardashians?

However, I’ve decided that the grace period is over and it’s time to change my attitude! This week, I pulled together a bunch of links to help you fight that post-New Year’s slump. I’ve included everything from easy Super Bowl recipes to insightful articles to phenomenal online sales for you shoppers out there.

So, perk up, Ladies! Spring will be here before we know it.

Dorm-Room Approved Super Bowl Recipes

The upcoming Super Bowl game provides a great opportunity for you to get together with your friends without going out in the Arctic Tundra. It’s also the perfect excuse to chow down on some good ole’ comfort food. One of my favorite Super Bowl recipes is Seven Layer Dip. It’s a classic crowd-pleaser and leaves little room for error. Since it doesn’t require any actual cooking, it can easily be assembled in your dorm room!  Just grab some tortilla chips and you’re good to go.

If you’d rather make something sweet for your viewing party, check out this S’mores Snack Mix recipe from the Foodie Friday archives. It only requires a few ingredients and all you need is a microwave to melt the chocolate.

NFL Commercial

Continuing in the Super Bowl spirit, I had to share this NFL commercial with you. It honestly gave me goosebumps. Regardless of who you’re rooting for during the big game, I think we can all agree that Derrick Coleman’s story is nothing less than extraordinary.

To the Fisherman…

I thought this Thought Catalog article was particularly relevant during the weeks right after winter break. I think we all have someone in our lives at home that can be considered a “fisherman”.  It could be significant other, a friend, or maybe even a distant relative. Regardless of who your fisherman is, this article serves as a nice reminder to always do what’s best for yourself, even if it means saying goodbye sometimes.

Drunk in Love

I included this video to counteract the somewhat somber nature of the last link. If you needed reassurance that true love exists, look no further than Beyoncé and Jay-Z. These two dominate the music industry, yet it became clear at the Grammy’s this week that they put their relationship above all else. Not to mention, they put on a killer performance.

ThreadSence

My last link could be dangerous for my fellow online shopping addicts—don’t say I didn’t warn you. I’ve recently become obsessed with the online store Threadsence.com. It offers trendy, moderately-priced clothing, accessories, and home décor. But, the best part is, they have a 30-60% off sale, EVERY FRIDAY. Each week they feature different items; so, it’s always worth checking out!
