Valentine’s Day: one of the best days there is to be a girl. It is the time for cheesy movies, snuggling up next to your guy, flowers, chocolates, and teddy bears. It’s the moment you’ve been waiting for. Now he can shower you with his undivided love and affection. But there’s one problem; you’re in a long distance relationship.

Relationships are hard enough without putting miles in between you and your significant other. Seeing all the sickeningly sweet couples may drive you insane, but remember Valentine’s Day is just one day. You can survive and here are a few tips to help:

1.     Skype/Video Chat

You may not be in the arms of your guy, but that doesn’t mean you can’t see each other altogether. Plan a romantic Skype chat. Get all dolled up in that favorite dress that he likes.

2.     Girls Night

Do you know any other ladies out there in an LDR or single? Scoop them up and have a girl’s night out. Binge out on some cake and ice cream or watch your favorite sappy movies. While trying to get over this bump in the road, surround yourself with the ones that care for you.

3.     Postpone Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day is just one day out of the year. Honestly, it can be any day. So, postpone your Valentine’s Day. Plan a do-over when you and your guy reunite. Everyday that you’re together is Valentine’s Day; so don’t let a calendar dictate when you celebrate.

4.     Plan A Getaway

Instead of wallowing in your own self-pity, plan your next getaway. A romantic weekend for two outside of town.  Save up for a summer trip, or even surprise him with tickets to see his favorite sports team or band. It’s not important what you do, but that you are together. Don’t let one day get you down. Think about the big picture. Your relationship means so much more than a box of chocolates or a teddy bear.

Being away from your guy for any amount of time can be hard, especially on Valentine’s Day, but hold on to the happy memories that you’ve made during your relationship until the next time you see each other. Make any and everyday a chance to celebrate your love. You don’t need one day on a calendar to determine the worth of your relationship.
