6 Reasons it’s Better to be Single!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Harvard chapter.

1. Chocolate.

Firstly and most importantly, let’s talk about chocolate.  The days leading up to Valentine’s Day are magical days because the amount and variety of chocolate available in stores multiplies.  And who says you need a Valentine to enjoy it?  Go out and get yourself as much fancy heart-shaped chocolate as you can carry and eat as much of it as you want while you watch Pitch Perfect in your bed in your PJs (is it just me who does that?).  No sharing, no judgment—just you and a day (month?) of chocolaty candy bliss.

2. You.

Another fantastic thing about being single on Valentine’s Day is that no one knows you better than you do.  So be your own Valentine!  Do what makes you happy, whether it’s taking a bubble bath or going out dancing or eating a pint (or three) of Ben & Jerry’s—or all of the above.  You have no obligations to anyone but you.

3. Your single friends!

If you’re single, Valentine’s Day is a great opportunity to get together with the rest of your romantically challenged friends and bond!  You may not be in a relationship, but you still have a group of friends who love you (and who are available to hang out with you on Valentine’s Day).  Have a movie marathon or a sleepover.  Get dinner and go out!  Take the opportunity to focus on strengthening your friendships.  Because Valentines come and go, but single ladies’ wine night is forever.

4. Sleep.

Get a good night’s sleep this Valentine’s Day!  You can have the covers all to yourself and stretch out any way you want.  So wear your floppiest flannel PJs and enjoy catching some well-deserved and uninterrupted Z’s.

5. No need to shave!

Need I say more?

6. The weekend!

This year, Valentine’s Day falls on Friday.  Grab some friends, go out, and meet some new people!  You never know—your soulmate could be out there waiting for you.  When you’re single, the possibilities are endless.
