Have you been searching for some new songs, collegiettes™? Well search no more because Her Campus has the breakdown of the Top Five Songs from iTunes! This week’s top five feature a diverse selection of songs for any music lover.

1.      “Happy (from ‘Despicable Me 2’)” – Pharrell Williams

Pharrell Williams’s song “Happy” from the movie “Despicable Me 2” is number one this week. Williams wrote and produced the song himself. “Happy” will also be on Williams’s second studio album to be released later this year. This song has made a worldwide impact, topping the charts not only in the United States, but also in Australia, France, Germany, Ireland, New Zealand, the UK, and 15 other countries. After all, who doesn’t want to be happy?

2.      “Dark Horse (feat. Juicy J)” – Katy Perry

“Dark Horse” is from Katy Perry’s fourth studio album, PRISM. This song was released as the album’s third single and features hip hop artist Juicy J. “Dark House” is a mash-up of pop, techno, and rap music. This song is darker than other songs by Perry such the radio hit anthem song “Roar”. Compared to other Perry songs, “Dark Horse” is unique, standing out in the pop music genre.

3.      “Talk Dirty (feat. 2 Chainz)” – Jason Derulo

“Talk Dirty” is from Jason Derulo’s third studio album, Tattoos. This song was released as the second single from the album, featuring fellow hip hop artist 2 Chainz. “Talk Dirty” has traces of pop and electronic music mixed together with hip hop. Plus, this song has samples of music from Israeli group Balkan Beat Box. “Talk Dirty” was created with an international audience in mind. This song is popular not only in the United States, but also in Australia, New Zealand and the UK.

4.      “All of Me” – John Legend

“All of Me” is from John Legend’s fourth studio album, Love in the Future. This romantic R&B song is a declaration of Legend’s love for his wife, Chrissy Teigen. This piano ballad features lovely lyrics like, “All of me loves all of you; love your curves and all your edges; all your perfect imperfections.” In my opinion, this song is perfect for the first dance of the bride and groom at a wedding. “All of Me” is simply a sweet and sincere love song with an amazing music video too.

5.      “Pompeii” – Bastille

“Pompeii” is from British rock band Bastille’s debut studio album, Bad Blood. The lyrics of the song are inspired by the Roman town that was destroyed by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius. The music video is an allegory to the destruction of Pompeii as Bastille’s frontman Dan Smith flees LA. This song has an upbeat tone with powerful lyrics such as, “And the walls kept tumbling down in the city that we love; great clouds roll over the hills bringing darkness from above.” Although “Pompeii” is Bastille’s highest ranking hit, the rest of their album is definitely worth listening to.
