Casual sportswear looks have defined this past year’s runway and street style. From harem pants to boyfriend-cut coats, there are dozens of trends that maximize on comfort while looking chic.

Footwear is no exception. Stilettos, chunky heels and boots usually dominate street style especially during fashion week, but this year there is a new contender: Nike sneakers.

In the past (and by this, I mean at most a couple months ago), I wholeheartedly believed that there was no place for a running sneaker outside of the gym. Rock heels and ankle boots on the street; run with sneakers in the gym. Their intended uses defined their necessary homes in outfit rotations. The only exceptions were Converse and an assortment of Vans.

Despite this original stigma, sneakers have become the new “it” shoe. This sneaker isn’t your stereotypical New Balance tourist shoe; it’s a fabulous bold shoe that flaunts neon colors, sleek black details or patterns. With the right sneaker color and complementary clothing pieces, there is nothing more fashion-forward and edgy than rocking a pair of sneakers with non-gym attire.

How to wear it:

Loose dresses: Sporty sneakers and a dress…seems like an oxymoron right? With the right fit and a cinched waist, there is no better complement than mixing your feminine side with a rougher edge.

Skorts or shorts: Choose asymmetrical shapes or your everyday denim. Either way, the easiest way to style your look is by pairing your bottoms with baggier tops, t-shirts and jackets.

Leather pants: There is nothing sleeker than ankle-tight leather pants or leggings and a bold sneaker. Balance this out with oversized sweaters, blazers, t-shirts and overcoats.

My advice? Go for the bold and take on this trend because it’s not very often that fashion trends are this comfortable.
