The Need to Knows of Online Shopping

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Maryland chapter.

It’s Wednesday and you have to get a great outfit by Friday and have zero time to go to the mall because you’re  buried in papers. And sorry, ladies, PG Plaza isn’t gonna cut it, either.  So, what do you do? All signs point to online shopping. Living in a house with over 30 girls’ means that packages come everyday, returns to these places are made almost everyday and satisfied online customers are not hard to come by.

So let’s go back to our scenario where time is running out on finding a killer outfit in just a couple of days. Where do you go on the web? Well I asked some girls who are frequent flyers in the online shopping department about various online shopping websites and tried out some of these stores online for myself.

Brandy Melville

Coming from first hand experience, don’t order Brandy Melville online, it will only bring you sadness.  Since every item of clothing is one size fits all, guessing if you are the one size that fits all typically ends in a return trip to the UPS store. Unfortunately I mostly say goodbye to the trendy tween clothing on the company’s website and don’t offer them a home in my closet. Returning the clothes is easy enough you just have to be willing and get it back to the headquarters within the time constraint.

Haute Look

Nothing beats this Nordstrom branches website of reduced price designer goods. When I saw that Wildfox was on sale, I pounced. I was so excited with my purchase but when I looked at the date it was supposed to be delivered, it was three weeks from the day I ordered it and I was supposed to be home for winter break by then. Disappointed, I called the company and had to change the address it was being sent to, luckily they were more than accommodating. The lovely woman on the phone made me believe in Haute Look again. Or, if you want a similar Nordstrom experience, check out Nordstrom Rack- basically Haute Look prices, but with an actual store front.

Tobi

Sophomore communications major Jaimee Schuster says that Tobi doesn’t always have the best quality clothes. Tobi is known for their great 50% off sales but sometimes the clothes don’t last as long as you would like them to. “I send more back than I keep from there,” sophomore communications major Taylor Rockower said.

Necessary Clothing

Going on Necessary Clothing can be intimidating; mostly because everything is so inexpensive you don’t know what to do with yourself. Before you know it, your shopping cart is overflowing with going out shirts and that $20 shirt turned into a $200 wardrobe. When everything comes though, it doesn’t look as good as you would like. Schuster says that she likes the store better because it is easier to try on the outfits you don’t always know are going to work when you see them online.
