Wear the World with Serengetee

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UVM chapter.

As spring break inches closer and closer, there is the rush of excitement of finalizing plans. That relaxing week in Cancun sounds amazing, but there’s a pinch of guilt mixed in as the Alternative Spring Breakers start talking about how much they are giving back that week. To relieve that guilty conscious, we think you should try something so easy and new! Rather than sporting Greek letters, your most comfortable flannel, or an overloved sports tee, you can support charities around the world simply by wearing a shirt.

Serengetee designs pockets on its tees with local fabrics from 28 countries worldwide, allowing you to help change lives around the globe and look cute while doing it. Celebrating its 2-year anniversary, the company continues to live its mission statement “to connect people to the globe through fabric while giving back to communities that inspire [their] products” by donating 5% of their proceeds to a charity within each fabric’s origin country.

Serengetee tees are plain white or black with a patterned pocket, and available in long sleeve, tank, sweater, crop top, and can now be put on backpacks. Bundling up, or going out, they are a simple addition to any closest for girls and guys. Even Tyler Posey from Teen Wolf came out with his own line! I recently bought my first package with a sweatshirt and v-neck tee. I got the American flag patch on the sweatshirt, perfect for a themed party, Fourth of July, or just wearing around campus. Not only have I gotten several compliments on it, but it’s also become my go to lounge wear because it is very well made and extremely fuzzy and comfortable. In the process of adding to my closet I donated funds to the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund, which serves US military personnel wounded or injured in service to our nation and their families.

The v-neck I ordered has also been a big hit. I got it in black to make the Mokolo pattern on the patch really stand out. Perfect for a night out on the town, or a causal library day. In buying the shirt, I donated to TLC Children’s Home of South Africa that meets the need for quality childcare for abandoned children. The home’s mission is to take in babies from birth to 3 years to help them reunite with their family or find them a new home. So even if you already donate time and energy to helping others (or if you are simply looking for a way to justify your shopping addiction, Serengetee is a way that you can change the world in style.
