Are You Addicted To Games On Your Cellphone?

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Point Park chapter.

Flappy Bird, Candy Crush, Temple Run, Cut The Rope, Words With Friends, and Ruzzle are just a few examples of why gaming causes our phone batteries to last about two hours tops. The question is why? Why do these games really make us sit in the corner at a party playing until our phones die, or excuse ourselves from the dinner table to go play in our rooms, or take procrastinating our homework and studying to a whole new extreme.

The answer is: it doesn’t matter what the game is- if our brains want to keep playing even after we lose a consecutive amount of times, we actually might be addicted. Of course the games on our phones are fun at first, but after a week of beating our high score and secluding ourselves from the outside world, what level of wallflowers have we become? The sad part of all of this is the fact that three year olds are playing Flappy Bird on the iPad instead of going outside and sled riding. Not to get too serious, but sometimes we become so consumed that we forget what day it is (or maybe that’s just me….).

Nevertheless, looking back on how much we haven’t achieved from beating all of the levels on Candy Crush is kind of disappointing. I mean, I think a medal in the mail would’ve been nice or something. Just think about all of this the next time you download a viral game, cause it’s really NOT worth it.
