Every UNH wildcat is familiar with the feelings of excitement and anticipation that come about on the eve of a potential snow day as we constantly refresh our emails and look to our phones for the golden words: CURTAILED OPERATIONS. Once the word gets out, there is an undeniable sense of relief that spreads throughout campus along with, of course, the melodic screams of “snow day”!!!

So what makes a UNH snow day so fun? It is the small gift of time when we can stop our hectic schedules to become little kids again. A snow day means that the campus is our very own playground in the midst of a winter wonderland for 24 hours. Make sure you embrace the snow like a true New Hampshire college student and celebrate a UNH snow day the right way!

Sidewalks not cleared?

No class means that there is time for adventure! Put your new Bean Boots that you got over winter break to good use and take a walk off the beaten path in College Woods! It is fun to walk this path any time of the year, but what better time to walk through and appreciate the beauty of where we live than when you have no responsibilities for the whole day?

The library isn’t just for studying…

If you have to catch up on homework and assignments during the day off, take a study break on Library Hill! We all know this 90 degree hill as a form of hell when struggling to climb it with a backpack during the weekdays, but during a snow day wildcats transform Library Hill into an endless form of fun. Whether you prefer to sled (with a dining hall tray of course), ski, snowboard or just watch everyone face plant into the snow, it is always a good time and definitely beats studying.

HoCo only open until 7pm? No problem…

The fact that the dining hall has shortened hours may seem like a bummer, but it actually gives you an excuse to take advantage of your dining dollars and cat’s cache to splurge on snow day treats! A snow day is a break in your routine, so skip your diet today, gather your girls and head to Wildkitty to order that chicken parm or chicken ranch sub that you’ve been craving! While you’re at it, look into any snow day specials that coffee shops around campus like Aroma Joe’s has to offer; maybe a large hot chocolate half off?!

Get creative!

After a big snow storm, it is always fun to see snowmen and snow forts that were made by wildcat artists. Spend your day making a snowman on your quad or places like T-Hall lawn and get a picture of it published! Tag a picture of your snow creation with #UNH or #UofNH and it may end up on UNH social media!

No matter how you spend your mid-week day off, make sure you take advantage of it the Wildcat way!
