Name:Â Jessica Modriskey
Age:Â 19
Year:Â Sophomore
Hometown:Â Jacksonville, North Carolina
Major:Â Environmental Studies
Relationship Status:Â In a long distance relationship with a Gator boy
Her Campus (HC): Why did you choose to focus on environmental studies?
Jessica Modriskey (JM):Â Well, animals are my passion! I wanted to find a way to help them by doing animal conservation.
HC: Awesome! Do you have any pets?
JM:Â I actually have two wiener dogs named Laila and Paisley. Laila is named in honor of Laila Ali and Paisley is in honor of the great country singer Brad Paisley. I also own two betta fish Magneto and Boe. These are in reference to X-Men and Doctor Who, two of my favorite fandoms.
HC: Dogs are the best. Do your pets live with you?
JM: They live with my parents in North Carolina…I miss them all the time!
HC: Aww! What are some of your favorite hobbies?
JM:Â I really like hanging out with my friends. I love exploring new places in Tallahassee. I love being outside in nature.
HC: What are some of your favorite places to visit in Tallahassee?
JM: Some of my favorite restaurants are Burger-Fi and Hiro’s Frozen Yogurt. As far as places outside, I love visiting the Tallahassee Museum during the fall season. It’s a different take on a zoo. You see all of the native animals to Florida. It’s a fun place to walk around and explore. My boyfriend also loves going there with me. The museum doubles as a great date place.
HC: That’s so sweet! Time for some random questions…If you were 80 years old, what would you tell your children?
JM: I would tell them don’t sweat the small stuff. Tell your family you love them every day. Always believe in yourself. In your weakest moments, always find a reason to laugh.
HC: If you could meet anyone who would you meet?
JM: That’s tough. I would pick Stan Lee. He is the creator of X-Men, my favorite comic, and all the famous Marvel Comics. He made Marvel Comics what it is today. He is 91 and still awesome! I would look through all of his archives and just chill out. He started what I love and I relate to so many of the characters, and his passion for his fans is something I really admire. He never gave up hope and he did things (such as helping Marvel when they went bankrupt), which is truly remarkable.
HC: Thanks for sharing! Who are your role models?
JM:Â My role models are my parents. They were high school sweethearts and they give me something to look up to because my boyfriend and I are also high school sweethearts. Through thick and thin with the Marine Corps, they stayed strong. The two of them instilled great qualities within my sister and me. My Mom taught my sister and me to be strong for ourselves, and my Dad taught us to be strong for others.
HC: They sound like great people! Thank you so much for letting me interview you today!
JM: I had so much fun! I can’t wait to read all the new Her Campus articles!
