Her Campus: What are you involved in on campus?Alyssa Long: I’ve been a member of Phi Beta Lambda (PBL), the business club, since sophomore year and am this year’s secretary.  I’ve also been on the dance ensemble since sophomore year and am currently taking lyrical, jazz, hip hop, and modern classes.

HC: What honors have you received?AL: I’ve been on the Dean’s list for four semesters so far, awarded for my Outstanding Membership in PBL for my involvement both years so far, and a member of the College of Business Student Advisory Board this year.  I have also just been invited to join two Bloomsburg University honor societies: Phi Kappa Phi for general academic excellence and Beta Gamma Sigma for academic excellence in the College of Business.  I am going to join both.

HC: How do you handle your workload on top of your extracurriculars?AL: I’ve always been very organized and a good time manager.  I make sure to write down all of my schoolwork in my agenda book each day and prioritize by what’s due first.  It has gotten less stressful over the years from practice, but is definitely still hard to juggle.

HC: What accomplishment are you most proud of since your time at BU?AL: Going along with my honor society invitations, I am probably most proud of being able to earn and maintain a high GPA on top of my club involvements.

HC: What are you looking forward to most after graduation?AL: I’m going to miss college life and being around all of my friends, but after I graduate in May it will be nice to be around my family more again.  I’m also excited to hopefully start a career that I enjoy.  Plus, not having work to do after hours like in school will be so nice!

HC: What advice do you have for students looking to build their resume?AL: There are so many tips I have learned throughout my college career from guest speakers and other resources, but I suggest being involved in clubs and activities outside of just classwork.  It shows a lot to recruiters about being able to manage your time handling a social life on top of doing well in your courses.  Also, take advantage of the Career Development Center to perfect your resume and cover letter and the ZIPD sessions to gain knowledge and network.
