5 Must-Have Interview Pieces

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Mich chapter.

It’s hard to believe that it is already mid-March, which means we are that much closer to the end of the school year. With the conclusion of our classes comes summer, and with summer comes the question: What am I going to do for the next four months?! For many of us, trying to land a dream summer internship is the way we are headed. However, accomplishing this task takes a lot of research, time, and hopefully interviews! When it comes time for the in-person interview, it is important to have a few basic items in your closet that you can mix and match depending on the level of formality of the job your are seeking. No doubt, if you score the internship, you’ll also need these clothes for the workplace!

Every girl should own at least one blazer. A blazer is versatile, and you can pair it with everything from dress pants, to a skirt, to jeans, or even over a dress.

A great pair of ballet flats is also necessary since your internship may keep you on your feet for the whole day.  Stay away from high heels and invest is a cute (and comfortable) pair of flats.

Next, a work dress is a must. Pick something that is easy to throw on and can stand on its own.

Black pants are definitely an investment you should make. Finding the right fit is crucial.

Finally, blouses are a great way to show your personality through solids, prints and patterns, while also being “office” appropriate.

Remember, always ask what the attire is in the office before your first day. You never want to be underdressed, but then again, you also don’t want to be overdressed. Good luck with interviews, you’re gonna look great!
