Last week we shared with you our favourite DIY hair masks  – this week we’ve got some amazing homemade face mask recipes with you.

After the harsh winter months our skin is fatigued and often very dry, needing that extra nourishing and moisturising. As we said in our hair mask article, quite often shop bought masks are filled with harmful chemicals, which can have the opposite effect on our skin or hair. Her Campus recommends instead making your own face masks with the ingredients in your fridge – they are often a lot cheaper this and are much more beneficial.

For Dry/Chaped Skin

This mask is a perfect one all round after winter. Even if you suffer from oily skin it is still vital to replenish and moisturise it (often not moisturising can lead to even more blemishes).

Ingredients:

½ very ripe, soft avocado

¼ cup honey

Simply mash the avocado in a bowl and then stir in the honey. Apply to your skin and leave it to soak in for around 10 minutes. Rinse off with warm water and finish by splashing your face with cold. The warm water opens up the pores allowing you to cleanse the skin thoroughly, whilst the cold seals them up again preventing any further clogging.

Banana Face Mask

Ingredients:

1 medium banana

2 tablespoons honey

¼ cup plain yogurt

This mask is perfect if your skin is feeling slightly dry and needs some softening up. The ingredients blend perfectly to create an all natural facemask that leaves your skin looking and feeling softer. Simply mash or blend the ingredients together to form a smooth paste and then gently apply to your face (you can bring the mask down onto your neck if you need to). Let the mask set for around 10-20 minutes then rinse off using the same technique as the avocado mask. Even though the mask this filled with moisturising nutrients its always a good idea to follow up any cleanse with a moisturiser to ensure all the goodness is sealed in your skin.

Ultimate Cleansing Mask

Ingredients:

2 tablespoons of honey

1 tablespoon of lemon juice

1 tablespoon of olive oil

1 ½ tablespoons of sugar

This mask is an all round facial. The sugar and lemon juice work together as a cleansing scrub to remove any dead skin whilst the olive oil and honey moisturise your skin and brighten your complexion. Blend the ingredients in a bowl, apply to face and rinse off with warm water.

Baking Sosa Blackhead Scrub

Ingredients:

1 tablespoon of granulated sugar

1 tablespoon of baking soda

1 tablespoons of water

Admittedly this might seem a strange combination for a face mask however, baking soda can work wonders on our skin. It not only helps to cleanse and scrub away any dead skin cells it also helps fight off blackheads. Baking soda helps to neutralise your skins pH, so that it produces less oil and eventually eliminate blackheads. Simply blend the ingredients to form a paste and ensure to massage this mask onto damp skin. Massage for around a minute and then rinse off with warm water.
