5 Spring 2014 Makeup Trends to Try

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BU chapter.

Wardrobe? Check. Sandals? Check. Sunglasses? Check. Spring checklist complete? Guess again! First, you’re going to need a little briefing on the latest makeup trends for the season. So sit back, relax and channel your inner MUA as you browse five makeup trends fresh off fashion week’s runway.

1. Bright Orange Lipstick

Put a pop of color on those bare lips with a radiant shade of orange. Bold? Sure. A tad risky? Well, yes. But why not switch it up this spring in a loud, proud and daring way? Matte is the way to go for a bright and neon vibe. But you could always play it safe with an orange gloss…though, what fun is there in that?

2. White Eyeliner

There’s just something fresh and vibrant about white liner. Brighten your eyes by adding white in your tear duct and on your lower lash line of course. I personally opt for a kohl white liner over the typical black when it comes to the lash line. It highlights the eye much better, drawing that extra attention that you surely want.

3. Modern Cat Eyes & Graphic Liner

Break out that jet-black liquid liner and get to work! Bold line work and angular shapes add a chic and edgy touch to your look. It’s creative. It’s modern. It’s sassy. So have a little fun experimenting with your own cat eye and graphic detail.

4. Color Popping

Sweeping washes over the lid is a major trend for this spring. Lavenders, aqua hues and spring greens are most popular. No need to worry about perfect application and color blending like the pros. The pop of color trend is easy enough!

5. Glowing Bare Skin

Rid yourself of those heavy and chalky powders, liquids, and creams by going with a tinted moisturizer or hydrating foundation instead. With such a radiant glow, your skin will thank you. Bare skin is in! And this relaxed day glow will leave you looking refreshed in an “I woke up like this” (yes Beyoncé!) flawlessly effortless way!

Best of luck as you test the spring makeup waters this year! Have fun mixing and matching the trends in a combination that works best for you. You’ll have the look of a fashion week runway model down in no time!
