Honoring L’Wren Scott

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Davidson chapter.

“If you don’t feel good in it, don’t wear it.  Because it’ll never look good.  Any hesitation in the fitting room and just walk away.”

Judicious advice from one of the star designers of the fashion world, L’Wren Scott.

L’Wren Scott, who died in New York last Monday, March 17th, was a stylish, self-confident woman who knew what her chic customers wanted.  At a statuesque 6’ 3”, she began her lifelong love affair with clothes at an early age, sewing her own clothes as a teenager when she couldn’t find anything to fit her lanky frame.  After a stint as a model, Scott, whose original name was Laura “Luann” Bambrough, worked as a celebrity stylist until she decided to start a fashion line with her own money.  Her initial plan to create a mature and glamorous LBD soon encompassed a fashion house that made dresses for the movie Ocean’s 13, countless celebrities, and a recent Banana Republic collaboration.  While some may remember her as Mick Jagger’s girlfriend, Scott’s claim to fame remains first and foremost her priceless contribution to women’s fashion.

Sarah Jessica Parker praised Scott for making “an unbelievably contemporary dress in a remarkably old-fashioned way for all sorts of women and body types.”

A number of celebrities over the years have walked the red carpet in L’Wren Scott, including Girls actress Allison Williams, the perennially talented Amy Adams, and funny lady Tina Fey.

Even Michelle Obama favored Scott’s designs. Below, the First Lady shows off her athletic prowess on the tennis court while wearing a L’Wren Scott sweater.

Fashion designer Diane von Furstenberg described Scott as a “very talented designer and a beautiful woman.”  Pictured here are looks from L’Wren Scott’s Spring 2013 and Spring 2014 collections.

Classy and sassy, L’Wren Scott will be missed.

With my pale skin and curly hair, it might look like I spend all of my days in the library--which I totally could because I LOVE to read--but I promise I don't. I am an avid subscriber to Vogue, Lucky, and InStyle (you can infer my passion for shopping from that, right?). When I can't find what I want on the racks, I'll sew it myself. Elizabeth Taylor, Gregory Peck, Ingrid Bergman, Audrey Hepburn, and Grace Kelly are my style icons, not to mention stars in some of my favorite classic movies.
