When Your BFF Goes to Another College Told in GIFs

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at VCU chapter.

Being away from your best friend in college can be rough. If you are lucky, you both end up going to the same college — but most likely all signs say the road ends here. But why does it have to?

At first you experience the dreadful and dramatic goodbye.

Then you guys promise you will call each other EVERY DAY and stay in touch, no matter what!

Then you get to college and you meet your new roommates and become friends, but let them know subtly you already have a best friend. Because your best friend is doing the same right?

But then you get on Instagram or Facebook and you see otherwise; and your like, get away that’s my best friend!

Then stalk her new friend’s page and see that she hashtags your friend with #bestie.

You call her and casually confront her about what looked liked such a good night with her new “bestie,” and she goes on and on about the good times they are having that she never mentioned.

You start to get upset and even maybe a tad bit delusional. Calling her in hysterics.

She tries to understand why you’re being so dramatic and explains how much she hasn’t forgot about you.

You just cry letting her know how much she is missed and explain why your acting the way you are.

You try telling your new friends at your school what is going on. You even try hanging out with them more and telling jokes that only you and your best friend find funny. But they don’t seem to find it as equally funny.

Which makes you even more depresssed and alone.

But then you have this aha moment. Maybe even a twinge of maturity. And you realize that just because she is far away doesn’t mean she loves you any less. Life goes on and you will too.

The moral of the story is that no matter how far apart you two may be, she doesn’t love you any less. It’s okay to make new friends at your new school. Besides, these are the people you are going to be spending the next four years with the most anyway. Just make an effort to see each other over breaks and give each other breathing room to not grow apart but to grow up. You will be surprised how many new things you guys will have learned from your experiences at school and can’t wait to share with each other when reunited. Also try to be more open to her new friends at school and get to know them as well. Chances are the people she surrounds herself with at school remind her a lot like you and you may have a lot in common with them too. This will make the visits to her campus less awkward and more fun! Hang in there, she still loves you, trust me!
