Who Wants to be a Millionaire Matchmaker?

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at LMU chapter.

Patti Stanger never thought becoming a national reality star was in the cards for her, but little did she know that one of her talents would eventually lead her there. Patti constantly found herself setting up relationships for friends, and she eventually turned this talent into a business. The television icon visited Loyola Marymount’s campus on March 26 to talk to a room full of students about love, hook-ups, and dating culture in college.

We all have that one friend who constantly tries to set us up on dates with a less than perfect man, but fear not, ladies, as Patti Stanger has all the answers you need in finding the perfect match. Forget the idea of Prince Charming arriving at your doorstep with a horse-drawn carriage, and get ready for the harsh reality of modern dating: one with no room to tiptoe around feelings when dealing with our hearts.

Listed below are common questions that college students wonder about the dating scene, and Patti’s responses to those questions.

Q: Why is it hard to find a match today?

  • There are friend sites (Facebook) and dating sites (Tinder), but there is no site dedicated to both simultaneously.

  • “Cinderella and the Prince are dead”

  • People’s minds are driven by “How will I pay for this?”

Q: How do you make a guy want to be in a relationship?

  • Knowing that he has to work for it; you are a serious woman who has standards, not the ‘one-night-stand girl.’

  • “Don’t let the guys come over to your dorm room and not even bring a pizza!”

  • When he wants to woo you, he can have you. Until then, “no in, in, or in.”

Q: How do you transition from “hooking-up” to being in a relationship?

  • Begin to see each other on a daily basis.

  • Start to be mysterious; don’t let him know where you are at all times of the day.

  • When he takes you on a date – a classy date – you know he is working hard to woo you.

Q: What is the best cure for heartbreak?

  • Exercise

  • Delete his phone number. Just think about it, “Sorry, who is this?”

  • Get rid of pictures that make you upset

  • attractingasoulmate.com

  • TIP: “Instead of wasting a year, only waste a week.”

Q: What are Red Flags in a relationship?

  • Talking about exes

  • Hates mom

  • Has cheated

  • Not generous with his money and/or his love

  • Flaky

With all this advice, don’t forget to make sure that you are ready for a relationship. No matter what the circumstances of your relationship are, always make sure that men respect and cherish you.
