Spring has Sprung…Well Almost

I think every girl at Trinity can agree that we have grown tired of shimmying into jeans every morning. Not to fear, you will soon able to ditch the sweaters and throw on your favorite sundress. The weather is starting to warm up, so embrace it! Keep a lookout for these trends that you will soon be everywhere.

Here are some tips on how to transition from Winter to Spring, effortlessly!

Layering is key!

Connecticut weather always keeps me on my toes. It can be frigid in the morning and cool by the afternoon. Layering ensures that you’re prepared for whatever conditions hit campus. The key is to keep things light; think of blouses, t-shirts, leggings, and dresses as your basics to build upon. My favorite thing to do right now is pair an A-line dress with a simple jean jacket and black moto boots. You don’t need to wait for the Summer heat to wear your favorite warm-weather items.

Camo

Yes, it is back in full force. Swap out the typical denim jacket with this one by Madewell . It’s my most recent purchase and I’m in love. Not to mention, I got it for 30% off with their Spring sale!

Patterns

If it’s still too chilly to pull your favorite patterned maxi dress out of the closet, there is a VERY simple solution. Yes, you could just pair it with a cardigan, but that look is so overdone. Try this instead: Layer it with a thin blouse and roll up the sleeves, softening the overall look. Keep your accessories to a minimum, you want to look effortless.

Scarves and Jewels Galore

Brighten up your wardrobe by additing a statement necklace or a patterned scarf. I am obsessed with Baublebar right now! They carry amazing jewelry and maintain reasonable prices. Not to mention there is always a guest celebrity “bartender,” who creates their own line. Lately, they’ve been working with popular fashion bloggers. Not into jewelry? Try a lightweight scarf to add a pop of color to your ensemble. J. Crew and Anthropologie always carry unique styles! Mix different patterns and prints, there are no rules! I absolutely pairing florals and stripes together.

On to my favorite aspect of an outfit, handbags. They can bring your entire look to the next level.

This season there are three styles that should be on your list:

Backpacks

This trend has to be my favorite for this coming Spring. You might be picturing a Jansport backpack, but trust me these are anything but. Every premier designer has come out with their own take on the once forgotten style. Don’t think bulky, but instead simple and chic. Looking for a cheaper alternative? Zara has some amazing options.

Mini Bags

Yes, they are just as cute as their name suggests. There is no need to carry around huge bags, begging you to fill them with unnecessary items. These miniature versions of their parent bags are the perfect size for a night out or a day of shopping. 3.1 Phillip Lim and Alexander Wang are praised for their takes on what I’m sure will become every girl’s favorite accessory.
