It’s always a good time to listen to new music, especially when you’re trying to get into the groove of spring quarter. Check out some of these artists and enjoy!

Monsters of Folk

Genre: Indie folk

If you like Mumford and Sons, you’ll definitely like this indie folk band called Monsters of Folk. The songs are very relaxing to listen to and the band members (Conor Oberst, M. Ward, Jim James, and Mike Mogis) all have excellent voices.

Start here: Baby Boomer, Map of the World, Slow Down Jo, Ahead of the Curve, Temazcal, The Sandman, the Brakeman, and Me, Man Named Truth and Magic Marker

 

Eric Hutchinson

Genre: Pop

Eric Hutchinson is super talented! He writes his own songs, sings, and plays the piano and guitar. He has a unique, fun style that makes his songs really catchy!

Start here: Rock and Roll, OK, It’s Alright With Me, You Don’t Have to Believe Me, All Over Now, Watching You Watch Him, In the First Place and Oh!

 

Missy Higgins

Genre: Pop, Indie

Missy Higgins is an Australian singer, musician and songwriter. She has a really pretty voice that sounds great accompanied with the acoustic guitar or piano. 

Start with: The Sound of the White, Scar, Where I Stood, Sugarcane, Warm Whispers, Ten Days, Don’t Ever and The Special Two

 

Iron & Wine

Genre: Folk Rock

Iron & Wine (real name is Samuel Beam) is a 39-year-old American singer-songwriter from South Carolina. His songs are all pretty different, so listen to a few and see what you like!

Start with: Boy With a Coin, Flightless Bird, American Mouth, Naked as We Came, Serpent Charmer, Such Great Heights and Joy

 

Young the Giant

Genre: Alternative rock

Young the Giant (formally known as The Jakes) became popular around 2010 with their three hit songs “My Body,” “Cough Syrup,” and “It’s About Time.” The band recently released their new album Mind Over Matter in January.

Start with: Apartment, 12 Fingers, Islands, Mind Over Matter, Daydreamer and Firelight

 

She & Him

Genre: Indie

You’ve probably heard of Zooey Deschanel and seen her in New Girl, but you may not have heard of her band, She & Him, a duo consisting of Zooey and M. Ward. The music is fun, with an old-fashioned style and will definitely put you in a good mood. 

Start with: Never Wanted Your Love, Snow Queen, I Could’ve Been Your Girl, Ridin’ in My Car, I Was Made For You, Why Do You Let Me Stay Here?, In the Sun and Baby
