All About Summer Music Festivals

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Portland chapter.

One of the best parts of summer is the music festivals all over the country. Everywhere from Washington, Tennessee, New York, and Florida are just a few of the many places hosting festivals this year! The great thing about most of these events is that even if you can’t actually go to the concert, you can live stream the festivals on the internet! Here are a few of the concerts going on that you should check out, no matter if you can actually be there or not! And hey… who doesn’t love a spontaneous road trip with friends to see a great show?

1.       Coachella (April 11-13)- Live streaming on YouTube, this desert concert in Indio, CA has been made famous, especially with the multitude of celebrities who go to enjoy the music! This year OutKast, Muse, and Arcade Fire are just a few people in the line up!

2.       Sashquatch! (May 23-25)- I will be hitting up this one at the Gorge this summer with my best friend! Nothing better than going on a camping trip with some of your favorite people and enjoying bands like HAIM, MIA, and Foster The People! I’m stoked.

3.       Bonnaroo (June 12-15)- If any pilots are in the south this summer, or maybe you have an internship down there, this festival in Manchester, TN looks absolutely awesome. With Vampire Weekend, Phoenix, Kanye, and Skillrex (to just name a few) of the big names on the lineup, it’s about to be a crazy weekend!

4.       Warped Tour (June 14- August 3)- The great thing about the Warped Tour is that it tours all over the country, so not matter where you are this summer, there is bound to be a date not too far from you! The lineup is constantly changing and updating so be sure to keep checking out who’s going to be where!

5.       Lollapalooza (August 1-3)- I’m incredibly jealous of anyone who gets to go to Lollapalooza this summer in Chicago, IL. With lineup highlights Eminem, Kings of Leon, Calvin Harris, and Lorde, I can’t imagine a better time! Chicago itself is a great city to check out as well!

Hitting up a music festival sometime during your college career is a must-do! They are worth every penny you have to spend and are great way to make unforgettable memories with friends! And if you can’t go to one, be sure to check out the online live streaming! Something is better than nothing! Happy Listening!

Hi Friends! My name is Sam and I'm a senior Biology major at UP. I'm also the 4th floor RA in Mehling (the best dorm ever)! Here are a few things that I love right now: tea, friends, sunshine, bows, scarves, salted caramel anything, and hand-written letters. I'm so excited to be a member of Her Campus here at UP and can't wait to share new and fun things with everyone!
Hailing from eastern Washington, Julia attends the University of Portland in Oregon, as a Communication Studies major with an emphasis on Journalism. As a magazine and book junkie, Julia reads everything (and anything) she can get her hands on, especially those passionate on young adult culture and entertainment. A woman that gets stir-crazy easily, Julia has been fortunate to have traveled many summers in a row to foreign countries, including a study abroad course in Austria, Germany, and Great Britain. Since a ripe age, she has grown and cultivated her passion and dream of working for a magazine and spreading awareness as well as happiness through the tips of her fingers. Always finding time for herself, Julia can frequently be found quoting movie lines (most frequently Will Ferrell or Vince Vaughn), having a 90's dance party with her roommates, or rereading "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" for the 40th time.
