Ole Entertainment: How To Celebrate Easter on Campus

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at St Olaf chapter.

Hey Oles! Unfortunately, our Easter break was taken out of the calendar this year to make sure spring semester didn’t run too long- for most of us out-of-staters, this means spending the holiday weekend on the hill. It’s not all doom and gloom though; there are plenty of fun things to do this weekend to get into the Easter spirit! Here are just a few ideas to get your creative juices flowing. Have a wonderful Easter, Oles!

1. Decorate your room.

What better way to get in the holiday spirit than to deck out your dorm room with bunnies, baby chicks and fresh flowers? Create an Easter atmosphere by buying some spring buds (you can pick up some cheap ones at Target, or snag a few at the Friday flowers table!) or making an Easter egg wreath for your door. Check out Pinterest boards of Easter decorations to get inspired, then get crafting and transform your room into a holiday retreat!

2. Dye some eggs.

Dyeing eggs is a great lazy-day activity to do with friends, and can produce some super really unique decorations. All you need is a carton of eggs, some food coloring, a couple of bowls, newspaper and tongs to dip the eggs. Make sure to blow out the yolks before dying to get eggs that will last longer. For intricate designs and fun details, try getting creative with stickers or drawing patterns on the egg with a white crayon!

3. Have an Easter egg hunt.

Remember all of those great Easter mornings growing up, when you raced out of bed and scrambled to find each egg your parents had (very poorly) hidden, determined to get the ones with the best candy before your sibling did? Recreate those childhood memories with your friends by hiding eggs for each other, but make it a little more difficult- instead of just hiding them in one area, turn it into a campus-wide egg hunt!

4. Call or Skype your family.

It may be difficult to spend the holidays away from family- make sure to check in with your loved ones and let them know that they’re on your mind. Likewise, shoot a text to that friend you haven’t talked to in ages, or send a card to somebody that has made a difference in your life. Reaching out to others and reconnecting with the various people in our lives is an important part of the holiday season, and will make a difference in their day as well your own.

5. Check out a religious service off-campus.

If going to church on Easter Sunday is an important part of your Easter weekend, consider attending a service at a church off-campus. There are plenty of religious denominations present in the Northfield area, and many churches offer special services on Easter for visitors and students. Of course, Boe Chapel will also be holding Sunday Morning Worship, as well as a service Saturday night at 7:30 p.m.
