This week’s Campus Celebrity is a double edition, with both Bethany Strong and Olivia Burton up for the title! Say hello to the editors of our chapter!
Bethany Strong
Beth is a 20 year old second year English and History joint honours undergraduate. She grew up in Medway, in South East England, and states that she had a little difficulty in deciding on what to study for her degree as she couldn’t choose between her two favourite subjects, so in the end she settled for both!
When Beth completes her degree she would love to work in the magazine industry and write regularly for a publication, especially in the beauty section, as she describes it as her “passion”. In the past she been lucky to complete placements with top entertainment companies such as Heat and Fabulous Magazine. She is currently on work experience with Reveal and also has an exciting upcoming internship with the beauty assistant at Marie Claire! On top of this, Beth makes up one half of the HerCampus Exeter-Cornwall editorial team. She got involved when fellow editor, Olivia Burton, approached her with the opportunity to build a team of contributors and set up a chapter for the University. Taking into consideration her aspirations of working for a magazine and her love for writing all things beauty, Beth tells us that “it didn’t take much convincing for me to see how great an opportunity this was”. As campus correspondents Beth and Olivia are in charge of making sure their team are producing new and exciting content, as well as ensuring each section of the chapter is regularly updated and even writing articles of their own!
When Beth isn’t overloaded with writing essays and articles she likes to unwind by doing ballet. She’s only recently developed a love for the dance but she claims “it’s so great for flexibility and toning”. She also adds “it’s so pretty and elegant, but also takes a great deal of strength”. As well as dance she loves to blog about fashion and review her favourite beauty products. Olivia Burton
Olivia is a 20 year old second year Politics undergraduate and has had quite the exotic upbringing! Orginially from Manchester she has gone on to live in Oman, Abu Dhabi, Trinidad, Pittsburgh, and now, when not studying in Falmouth, lives in Houston, Texas with her family.
After her degree she hopes to complete a NCTJ qualification and progress into the journalism field. When asked what her dream job would be she answered “a news correspondent.” But before all of that she wants to travel “anywhere and everywhere!” But for the meantime she is building up as much experience as she can for these future endeavours. Along with Beth, Olivia makes up one half of the HerCampus Exeter-Cornwall editors team. She decided to get involved with the magazine after seeing their main page and thinking that the University could benefit from it. In addition to regularly updating the chapter and producing content, her and Beth are also responsible for corresponding with HerCampus headquarters on a weekly basis, publicizing and promoting the chapter, and updating social media accounts such as Facebook and Twitter. Olivia claims “It’s actually a lot more work than I imagined”, espcially as she also has responsibilities that come with her title as ‘social secretary’ for the Politics society, but despite all this she says, “It’s amazing, fun and a fab opportunity”.
In her spare time she loves to be in the sun and sea, travelling, drinking wine with her friends and of course, writing.
