What is your year?
I’m a senior.
Major?
English with a creative writing concentration.
Hometown?
Greenville, South Carolina. But I consider Roswell, GA my hometown.
What do you like best about GCSU?
I really like the people. The campus itself is also very nice. I frequently enjoy walking around on cool days. But yeah, the people are great. Ever since arriving here my freshmen year I’ve come to know some amazing people, inside and outside my major.
What are you involved in on campus?
Nothing much. I did join Sigma Tau Delta this year though, so I helped with their Book Sale! It’s kind of sad but I was never really involved in any campus activities, I just go to them.
If you could go back in time to give freshman you advice from the you that’s about to graduate, what would you say?
I’d say that everything will be okay. I was one of those kids that didn’t want to leave home (not liking change and such), but once I got to GCSU and just started talking to people, it was all good.
What worries you most about graduation?
Life. I’m not quite sure what I’ll be doing with myself. While most people are going on to grad school and further schooling, I’ll be looking for a job. I can’t say I’m too worried because things have a tendency to work out in the end, but the idea is still daunting.
What are you passionate about?
I think the typical response would be my writing, but I honestly don’t know. I guess I’m passionate about people. I like making sure they’re okay, because everyone knows what it feels like to not be. I’m passionate about making people feel comfortable. I’m also passionate about some TV shows such as the BBC’s Sherlock and Attack on Titan.
If you could move to anywhere right now, where would it be and why?
Think I’d move to Japan. The Japanese culture is absolutely fascinating, and I’d nerd out so hard. Great Britain would also be cool, as well as Denmark. I’ve visited Denmark before and it’s a wonderful country. Go visit sometime!
Describe one of the best classes you’ve had at GCSU.
Can I do more than one? I’d have to say most workshop classes I’ve taken were fantastic. I especially enjoyed Professor Muschell’s Scriptwriting class. He knew what he was talking about, and would give great feedback. I’ve also loved Professor McMichael’s Professional Media Writing, Dr. Yaghoobi’s Middle Eastern Women Writers, and Dr. Sirman’s 20th-21st Century American Lit. Most professors and classes at this school are phenomenal but these are just a few.
Describe a time in college where you’ve had to step out of your comfort zone.
Now I’m trying to think if there ever was a moment… I was trying to think of a time when I’ve been uncomfortable in a social setting, but, the only time I’ve really been uncomfortable during my college experience was when reading one of my workshop pieces to the class for my capstone. I don’t mind sharing my work, but when I have to read it aloud, I become very self-conscious.
What’s a quality you look for in a friend?
Aww, I like this question. I basically just look for someone who is a good person. If you’re a good person, and you reciprocate the friendship, we will be the best of friends. I also look for a certain open-mindedness. I’d say I’m pretty open-minded, so I’d like my friends to be as well. Or, to at least be willing to have an open mind.
Is there any experience that you want to have in college before you leave?
I’m not sure. I’d like to think I’ll leave college with no regrets, but I guess I won’t know what I regret until I leave. Though this isn’t exactly an experience, I wish I could’ve met more people. Meeting new people makes me happy in general, so just having met a broader range of people would have been cool. Just wait, I’ll think of a regretful experience after this interview!
Bonus: What do you think supercalifragilisticexpialidocious means?
I’ve never seen Mary Poppins. Isn’t that sad? But I know the song. Kind of. I’m going to assume it’s an adjective that means that something is pretty darn awesome.
