Campus Celebrity: Chloe Greer

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Falmouth chapter.

2nd year Dance Performance Student, Chloe Greer, is feeling particular philanthropic this term and doing an amazing job in raising hundreds of pounds for Cancer Research UK.

HC: So what are you doing?

CG: I’ m running Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life on Sunday 18th May at 11am, beginning at Gylly Beach. I hope to complete the race in less than 40 minutes!

HC: Was there anything in particular that inspired you to get involved? And how did you go about it?

CG: Just after Christmas, one of my Dad’s best friends lost her battle with cancer and for me, this was the final straw. I could no longer do nothing! My Granny has had Bowel cancer twice, and my other Granny lost her fight with cancer before I was even born. Having seen how much money had been raised by the ‘no make-up selfie’ campaign (over £18 million) I was inspired to start fundraising!

HC: What and how have you trained for it? How are you feeling now it’s nearing the BIG day?

CG: I’ve been training in the gym almost every day and can now manage 7K comfortably on the treadmill – but running outside is completely different! Hopefully when the sunshine returns I’ll be able to start running outside more and more. Although I’m really nervous about the race, I know that, with the support of my friends, family and other runners, I will be fine!

HC: How much have you raised so far?

CG: I have raised £510 so far, which is way beyond my initial target. Now I am aiming for £600! If I could achieve this, that would be incredible.

I am sure you all join me in wishing Chloe the best of luck in her efforts during the race. She is a great reminder to us all that we can always do that little bit more. Because whilst we (as students) may complain about lack of money, food etc, there is always someone in need of help more so than you.

There are people around the world who face bigger challenges than trying to reach essay word counts. Having personally felt the sting of cancer many times through the loss of close family and friends, Chloe has helped to remind me that I can do more to end this dreadful disease. So Chloe, maybe, just maybe, you might have a running buddy next year!

Good Luck from all us here at Her Campus Falmouth!
