A forkful of flavor at Bottlefork Bar and Kitchen

Last Friday, my sister and I slipped into our spring sandals embracing the warm weather and clicked over to the Metra stop ready for dinner on the town.

We had a reservation at Bottlefork, recommended to her by a friend. Walking in, the restaurant was decorated with quirky finds from a meat hook chandelier to a mounted octopus tentacle on brick walls. It wasn’t cluttered with garage sale buys but placed you in between a wine cellar and an upscale butcher shop.

The restaurant featured wines on tap and collection of specialty cocktails. The portions were designed for sharing, which really means buy more than one because they’re small. The menu overall had a variety of flavors from steak tartar to Moroccan pumpkin stew. The dishes we had were unique and delicious. My sister had the salad with shaved root vegetables including beet and radish that were spilling over fresh leafy greens. I had the grilled octopus with a brussel sprout “Kim Chee” in a tangy sauce. Our server was accommodating and knowledgeable of the menu, certainly a plus if you decide to do a multiple course dinner. Though we sat at a table for two, the bar stretches down the restaurant and diners can view their food mid-creation, including the carving a pig leg. We stuck to just two dishes which were 14 and 17 dollars but they were small enough that we could have eaten more for a full meal. The flavors did not disappoint so Bottlefork is worth your dinner allowance.
