Have you ever wondered who is behind the scenes of Her Campus UT? Each week we will be featuring a different Her Campus UT member, so be on the lookout!Â
Name: Brianna Kwasnik
Age: 19
Year: Sophomore
Major: Journalism/Communications with a technical and professional writing minor
Hometown: Levittown, New York
Her Campus Position: Social Media Director, Staff writer
What is your favorite part of being in Her Campus? We’re like a little family. All the members get along really well, and it’s nice having a group on campus that you can relate to and genuinely enjoy working with and being around.
Besides Her Campus, where else do you have published writing? Where have you worked/interned? I have been published in USA TODAY College and the school paper (the Minaret). I am currently interning with CollegeFashionista and StyleFT, and I am a contributing writer for USA TODAY College.
Where do you see yourself in 10 years? Wow that’s scary to think about. I’ll be 29 probably nearing my midlife crisis. Hopefully working steady as a fashion journalist and getting to travel the world. I don’t really want to settle down. I want to own an airstream and move around the country as I please.
If you could have any job in the world, what would it be? I always dreamed of being a marine biologist. I’m fascinated by marine life, and I would love to work with animals. That dream died after my mom told me I needed to pass science.
What has been your favorite memory at UT? I wouldn’t say this was my favorite memory, but probably the funniest and one that always stuck with me. But, the first day of school, everyone on the floor slept in our room, and I thought I would be nice and wake up and make coffee. As I was pouring the water in the coffee pot, I felt a tickle on my foot. I looked down and a cockroach crawled across my foot. I screamed so loud, I woke everyone up in the room, and they were so confused.
What has been your favorite memory in life? My favorite memory in life would probably be when my mom, sister and I went to California for the first time. We were moving my sister there for college, and I was so proud of her for following her dream, and having the guts to leave our small town.
What are you involved in at UT? Her Campus, the Minaret
If you were stranded on an island, which 3 people would you want to be stranded with? Probably my mom, my best friend, and my dog. I would have enough laughs that I wouldn’t be stressing about being stranded on a deserted island.
What is your favorite quote and why? “Life is too important to be taken seriously.” I have it tattooed on me, because I liked the irony. I think some people get caught up in the routine of everyday life, that we often forget that life should be crazy, and life should be fun, amazing, and unpredictable. We get so distracted by trivial problems; we forget to look at the big picture.
What is your favorite part about being a vegetarian? What is your least favorite part? My favorite part is how it makes me feel. I think I was six or seven when I made the connection when the animals I adored were the food on my plate, and I vowed to never eat it again. I feel healthier, and I like knowing that I am not part of the problem. My least favorite part is getting harassed by people that I’m not getting enough protein, I’m no fun to go out to dinner with, and people joking if I want a bite of their hamburger.
If you could travel to any place in the world, where would you go? India. I love the food, I love the culture, I think everything is beautiful.
Describe yourself in three words: Passionate, driven, and hardworking
Advice to anyone thinking of joining Her Campus: To anyone reluctant to joining Her Campus, or any club at school, I’d say just do it! I am really shy, so I was incredibly reluctant against joining any clubs. But I didn’t just become a part of an amazing group here on campus, I found a family. This group of girls have become my best friends, inspire me to become a better version of myself, and gotten me out of my comfort zone. In any club, you’re going to find like-minded people who like the same things as you, and it’s really refreshing to have someone you can relate to. Don’t be scared to step out of your comfort zone and take those chances.Â
