For the past several years, Taylor Swift has been recognized as an unmistakable country music powerhouse, cultural phenomenon and inspiration to millions. Catering to audiences all over the world, Swift has succeeded in providing her following with songs inspired for every personal experience. In doing so, she has established a brand with a $200 million net worth. She has gotten people through their worst breakups, “22nd” birthdays, and has created anthems for everyday experiences that have sent wavelengths around the world. She is the woman every teen aspires to be, and the figure everyone her age envies.
Taylor recently announced in a candid interview with Rolling Stone Magazine that she is breaking away from her “boy crazy” persona and moving toward a pop music, feminist image. This next phase in her career is so monumental that she will no longer be attending country award shows, promoting her music via country radio or creating any form of country music. Her last album, Red, was a mix of both genres, however, she claims if “you chase two rabbits, you lost them both.” Thus solidifying that pop music is her new venture. In the interview, Swift mentions how the head of her record label, Scott Borshetta, asked her to include three country songs in the album. In response she simply stated, “Love you, mean it, but this is how it’s going to be”.
Swift has also transformed her post-breakup perspective within her music. No longer will exes be called out through her lyrics; she will be providing her audience with a “mostly wistful and nostalgic, not finger-pointy or score-settling” range of music. Recently, her life has become less “boycentric” and more Taylor-focused, which is the way she intends it to be for a while. The term “feminist” has become a predominant theme in her personal values, only surrounding herself with women (such as Karlie Kloss, Lena Dunham, and Lorde to name a few) who make her better, which is an example we should value and follow.Â
Cudos, Taylor, and thank you for being an exceptional rolemodel for anyone achieving their dreams.Â
