1. Plan to eat dinner together.
Life can get busy. The average collegiate is swamped with assignments, clubs, social activities and of course,  trying to get enough sleep. Sometimes there seems to be no time to grab a meal that isn’t on the go. However, planning at least one night a week where you and your roommates can sit down and share a meal together can give you the opportunity to check in with everyone. Being involved in the lives of your roomies is sure to bring you all closer.

2. Go shopping.
You’re going to need more groceries at some point. Plan a trip with your roommate on your next milk run! Shopping naturally leads to conversations that span from the gluten free phenomenon to the appropriate number of Nutella jars to buy. You may find that you have the same tastes- literally.
Â
3. Â Decorate your place together.
Planning to decorate your home is the perfect excuse to hang out with your roomie. You’ll finally get to spruce up your living space and chat with that roommate who never seems to be around. By the time you  and your roomies are done scrolling Pinterest together, grabbing supplies and re-arranging, you’ll know more about their personalities and styles!
Â
4. Plan a study session.
You and your roommates probably already have one thing in common —you are both students! Studying with your roommates will allow you to learn more about their interests.  You may be surprised to learn that your history major roomie is actually also very passionate about computer science. Bonus? You could end up with some new study tips.
Â
5. Plan an energetic activity to do together.
Depending on what you and your roomies like, you could plan a hike up Mount Doug or visit the James Bay market. The point is to not just sit in the living room basking in uncomfortable silences. Going out in public puts less pressure on you and your roomies to make conversation. If you are finding that you and your roomies have nothing to talk about, checking out a local band or event can spark a convo! Bonus? If there ends up being a pause in convo, the crowd and noise will make it less awkward.

Hopefully these tips are the starting point to building a great relationship with your roommates!
