8 Fall Fashion Must-Haves

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at American chapter.

Fall is almost here, and we have the fashion to prove it! With NYC’s Fashion Week done, designers brought it all new looks, some throwbacks and we brought our notebooks. Here are a few of the 2014 fall trends we saw, and most importantly, affordable alternatives. All you have to do is click and shop the latest trends!

The Biker Jacket:

We are used to those hard leather black or brown biker jackets, right? This season designers proved us wrong, and offered a new take on the traditional biker jacket. What’s “in” is a biker style made out of many different fabrics, prints, colors, you name it. Leather or not, we think these jackets are a must-have!

Featured jackets can be found at farfetch.com, or johnlewis.com. For those on a tighter budget, Forever 21 and H&M are sure to have similar jackets for half the price.

The Over the Knee Boot:

Alexander Wang proved to be a huge point of inspiration for ways to wear the new (or is it old?) boot trend of tall, thigh high boots for this fall. Many girls don’t really know how to pull off these huge statement-making shoes, but by pairing boots like these with a Top Shop dress, or a chunky sweater with leggings, you can’t go wrong.

The Boyfriend Jean:

Casual and comfy, but most importantly, extremely versatile- boyfriend jeans are back! This trend we wish had never left,  can be paired with flats, heels, or even just sneakers. You can’t really do boyfriend jeans wrong, just make sure you have the right fit! Stores like Pac Sun offer this style at an affordable price, while The Gap is always guaranteed to have your perfect fit to rock this classic look.

The Statement Necklace:

Not much of a surprise, but it seems that the statement necklace trend is here to stay! This fall, make sure you have one (or hundreds) of these gorgeous, outfit-making necklaces in your closet. They can be found pretty much anywhere, but for colorful, bold necklaces that are sure to match any outfit JCrew is a safe bet, while baublebar.com offers hundreds of choices for amazing steals.

The Trench Coat:

Short, long, printed, or solid, the trench coat is back, if it even ever left at all. Fashion Week left us obsessed with neutral color trenches, and especially with the impending rainy weather of fall, having one of these fashion statements in your closet couldn’t hurt!

The Metal Accented Shoe:

Shoes will never be just “shoes” again: bring a bit of bling back into your shoe shop by adding some metal accents. A huge hit for this fall seems to be metal accented, metal plated, metal buckled any kind of shoe. From flats to heels, even some tricked-out sneakers, metal accents will be sure to add some “pop” to your ordinary shoes. With these kind of accents showing up on shoes everywhere, gojane.com is a great source to keep up with the trend and find amazing sales.

The Chunky Sweater:

For those of us that have always and will always love anything oversized, this one’s for you. The chunky sweater made a huge impact at Fashion Week; oversized cowl neck sweaters, vintage looking threads, big, baggy neutrals, you name it. This vintage trend worn with skinny jeans and heels is a look that is sure to be a head turner, and super easy to just throw on. Urban Outfitters is always the go-to place to find thrifty sweaters that would fit this trend, but don’t forget that you can just as easily check out that funky thrift shop down the street, or even your parents closet for ready to wear chunky sweaters.

The Sneaker:

Sneaker lovers, you’re in luck! For some reason, well maybe because the fashion world finally realized how amazing sneakers are, they are making a statement on runways around the world. Worn with dresses, jeans, dress pants, anything, sneakers are back in high fashion. Fancy sneakers with gold accents, running shoes worn with non-gym outfits, and platform sneakers have been spreading like wildfire, all thanks to designers like Chanel and DNKY.
