Christianity stems from the belief that Jesus Christ died for the sins of the world– and that he rose on the third day. Although this is the foundation of Christianity, it encompasses more than a belief in Jesus. Being a Christian is more than a title and regular church attendance. To be a Christian is to live a life that honors and glorifies our Heavenly Father.

This lifestyle becomes a Christian’s essence. No matter where Christians go, there is a light that illuminates them because they are different. One cannot turn off their Christianity because they are in college; if anything, college promotes a setting to further ones relationship with God. However, this journey is not easy; the temptations and enticements will always be overwhelmingly present. It is not easy to say no to the “turn ups;” it is not easy to say no to casual dating or hook-ups, and it is definitely not easy when you are one of the few within your community pursuing this lifestyle.

“…Before you were born [God] set you apart;” as Christians, you were not called to blend in with this world. God created Christians with the purpose of standing out and being a light in dark places, in this case, our college campus. Sherley Guerrier, a Sophomore International Studies major from Florida, says, “Temptation will leave you wanting more of what you will never satisfy.” Jesus died so that Christians could have a rich and satisfying life– so essentially, He is the only one that will satisfy all of your needs. The temptations of this world will leave you empty.

Romans 12:2 says, “Don’t copy the behaviors… of this world, but let God transform you …by changing the way you think…” This is a clear command to live different from the world. It says that individuals must change the way they think, because as humans, we are sinful in nature. We naturally desire to please ourselves; but how do we change the way we think? One will change the way he/she thinks by beginning to read His word. The Bible is rich because it allows one to understand what God requires. After diving into His word, one has to pray and ask God to change their desires. They must ask God to give them a heart that longs to worship and adore him.
