10 Gigs in Notts You Should Check Out This Term

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Nottingham chapter.

Nottingham is home to a whole array of fabulous music venues that hold gigs of all genres and styles, ranging from huge arena bands to small local artists, and it would be criminal to live so close and not experience any of them! Here’s my pick of the best artists coming to town this term, but if nothing takes your fancy I encourage you to check out the gig guides yourself, I’m sure you’ll find something up your street!

Keston Cobblers Club – Monday 29th September – The Bodega

Keston Cobblers Club are a band from (surprise) Keston in South East London, who make, in their own words, ‘foot-stamping mod folk music’. A fantastic live band– something sweet that you can dance to.

Lewis Watson – Thursday 2nd October – Rescue Rooms

If being serenaded by a cute boy playing lovely tunes on the guitar, and swaying along to the music sounds like a good night out to you, I can’t recommend Lewis Watson enough.

The Twilight Sad – Tuesday 7th October – The Bodega

This Glaswegian band have been a little gem in the UK’s indie rock scene for a few years now, so if you’re a fan of the lyrically darker, musically slicker side of the genre, get on it.

Marmozets/Lonely the Brave – Saturday 11th October – Rock City Basement

I caught both of these bands in the NME/Radio 1 tent at Leeds festival this year and (wow!) did they put on a show, so this gig will certainly be a treat! Have a boogie to Lonely the Brave and mosh to Marmozets – two bands whose popularity is, rightly, rapidly growing.

Lancashire Hotpots – Saturday 18th October – Rescue Rooms

They have song titles such as ‘Chippy Tea’, ‘I’m Going to Poundland’ and ‘Mek us a Brew’, what more do you need to know? If you’ve never seen or heard of them before, I particularly recommend Lancashire Hotpots to those Northern lads and lasses who are feeling at all homesick.

Big Reunion – Sunday 19th October – Capital FM Arena

As a massive (and unashamed) boyband fan, how could I not put this here? 5th Story, Damage, A1 (taaaake oooon meeee), 3T, 911, Blue and Five all on the same bill. It’s a late-90s/early 00s dream.

Jess Glynne – Sunday 19th October – Rescue Rooms

You’ll know her voice from Clean Bandit’s ‘Rather Be’ and Route 94’s ‘My Love’, and she’s just finished a summer of festivals showcasing her fabulous solo stuff. Catch her now before she gets massive.

Clean Bandit – Tuesday 21st October – Rock City

Clean Bandit have so many instruments that their live shows are kind of mesmerising. Be awed at their musical talents and have a good old sing-along – what’s not to love?

New Found Glory –Tuesday 18th November- Rock City

The ‘Pop Punk’s Not Dead’ Tour is very aptly named, with support from The Story So Far, Candy Hearts, State Champs and Old Rivals. It’s a great mix of classic veterans of the genre and new players in the game.

Imelda May – Sunday 7th December – Royal Concert Hall

This Irish singer-songwriter with the fifties-inspired hair and outfits is very clearly inspired by jazz music, and the sound of her voice and backing band will fit this venue perfectly.
