7 Dorm DIY Projects You Can Make Right Now

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Emerson chapter.

Make your dorm room the envy of your friends without spending anything.

1) Sharpie Mug

Take a plain colored mug and draw a detailed design or inspirational quote on with colorful sharpies. If you want to use the mug for drinking, hop over to Colonial and bake the mug at 350 degrees for 30 minutes to make the marker waterproof.

2) T-Shirt Pillows

Are there shirts sitting in your dresser that you never wear? Turn them into fun throw pillows! If you’ve got a knack for sewing, you can stich up a pillow quickly. If not, you can hot glue the seams or even use a stapler.

3) Pen Organizer

Save up cardboard toilet paper tubes and use them to organize your pens. Simply place several of the tubes inside a shoebox and decorate the outside with wrapping paper or markers.

4) Shopping Bag Storage

Hang shopping or gift bags on your wall for organization that doesn’t take up desk space.

5) Cord Clips

Keep your chargers accessible at all times with binder clips hooked onto your desk or bedside. Thread the charger through the metal handle of the clip and they’ll always be within reach.

6) Painted Key

Tired of forgetting which key unlocks your suite and which is for your room? Paint the top of one key with colorful nail polish. A bit of nail polish remover will take off the paint at the end of the year.

7) Wall Calendar

Giant desk calendars are really great – and also really expensive. Duplicate the look by turning a paper bag inside out and drawing a grid. Label the month and days and you’re good to go!
