5 Things to Know About the iPhone 6 and iOS8

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Mass Amherst chapter.

Well it’s that time of year again…the newest iPhone model is out and on the market. In addition to launching the iPhone 6, Apple also launched the iPhone 6+ on September 9. Everybody has been buzzing about the latest generation of the world’s most popular phone. There’s a lot of talk about all the sweet new features included on the already impressive device, and everyone is making their way to the apple store to get their hands on it.

Here’s a list of the top 5 things to know about the iPhone 6 and it’s newest operating system, iOS8:

1. Sporting a sleek new look, the 6 has a 4.7-inch display, while the 6+ boasts a 5.5-inch display, which is 1.5 inches larger than the 5th generation iPhones. The models are thinner as well, and come in the same three colors as the 5s generation: space gray, silver, and gold.

2. The camera now can shoot HD, as well as time-lapse videos. It also has improved face detection, so you can get better group shots and portraits, in addition to better exposure control. Who needs a professional camera when you can just use your phone?

3. Now in Messages, you can add a voice or video message and send it like you would any other text. You can also give names to group messages and remove yourself from them, so you don’t keep getting all the notifications for messages that you don’t even care about. Or you can just check them later. All the attachments you’ve sent and received from a contact are now easily accessible, instead of trying to scroll through allllllllllll of your messages to find that one pic you want to show your friend.

4. QuickType is new too, giving you options for what word you might want to use next. Why type it out when you can just hit the button? You can also swipe instead of type, allowing you to just move your fingers around the keyboard without lifting them up to hit each individual key.

5. The new health app lets you keep track of a whole assortment of health-related information, including nutrition, sleep cycle, and fitness stats. You can also input if you have a severe allergy that will show up on your lock screen in case of emergency.

All in all, it seems like a pretty sweet phone. It makes me wonder, though, will the iPhone 7 be almost as big as an iPad?
