When you think of fall fashion, what comes across your mind? I am guessing boots, scarves, and sweaters were at the top of your list. These items are the traditional staple of the fall season that we all depend on to keep us warm and stylish as the temperature drops. Even though those pieces are great, we can always take it a step further and mix tradition with stylish trends to really make a fashion statement this fall!

1. Leopard

Within the past few years, leopard has been a faithful pattern in the fashion world. Leopard comes in all shapes and sizes— sneakers, sunglasses, dresses, blazers, ballet flats, clutches—making it fun to experiment with all of its many forms. Most importantly, leopard can be dressed up or down and can have a sharp or subtle presence depending on how you choose to wear it. You can add a touch of spice with leopard print ballet flats as you walk to class or be bold and beautiful with a leopard dress that will make heads turn as you head out for the night.

2. Leather

Leather is one of those classic pieces that never really goes out of style, but gets revamped year by year, making it even better than before. Of course there is the classic leather jacket and leather pants. But with new trends like leather tops, leather inspired outfits are endless. Leather may seem edgy but it doesn’t always have to be. Take on a look of pure elegance with a leather skirt and chiffon top or be edgy and have an all leather look with a leather jacket and pants.

3. Pastels

Pastels were all over the runway at New York Fashion week, which makes it even more imperative for us to incorporate the soft colored hues into our day-to-day look. Wearing pastels with dark colors creates a sharp contrast, allowing for the light pastel to stand out even more. Or why not color block and combine a baby blue with royal blue to have an elegant and tasteful color collaboration.

4. Midi Skirts

Who said you can’t be sexy and demure all at the same time? Well they’re wrong, because the midi skirt is the answer! Not too short and not too long, midi skirts provide a happy medium between two extremes. You can still feel sexy and demure with the midi skirt’s figure-flattering shape and respectable length. You can choose a close fitting midi and wear a leather jacket to add edge or choose a loose fitting midi and pair it with the classic chambray top.

5. Plaid

Like leather, plaid is another timeless piece that is always going to evolve as we play around with different fashion trends. It has been a staple piece with the trendy crop top and shorts/pants look. But plaid is so multi-dimensional that we cannot just limit it to crop tops can we? Add a little flavor to a chill day of sweats with a plaid top wrapped around your waist or over your shoulders. And when you want to get cute, create a leather/plaid combo with a leather jacket and plaid shirt to mix two classic pieces into one.

So now that you have an idea of what’s trending for the fall, have fun putting different trends together! With the new school year already in motion, try some new trends that will go great with traditional fall getup!
