HC: Where are you working and what is your position?

I currently work at the Veterans Affairs (VA) hospital as part of a year-long clinical residency program.  Essentially I work as an RN (with some limitations), but am overseen by a nurse preceptor. The program is designed to make it a smooth transition from graduation to assuming the role of an RN. It has been an amazing experience so far!

HC: What is something you wish you were told before starting the nursing program?

There are a couple things. First, I wish somebody told me that real life wasn’t like Grey’s Anatomy. I was a little disappointed when I showed up to my first day of Med Surge clinical and Derek Shepard wasn’t taking care of my patients (kidding). I wish that someone told me that it was going to be the hardest, most stressful, and anxiety provoking years of my life, but it will all be worth it. When I reflect on how far my classmates and I have come in this program, I am filled with such pride. It’s easy to get wrapped up in the insanity of homework and studying, and have the infamous “I hate nursing school” breakdowns, but I see all the new-graduates from last year getting jobs in the field that they love and it reminds me why we are doing it.

So to all the sophomores and juniors: IT IS WORTH IT!

HC: If there were a movie made about your life, whom would you want to play you?

Jennifer Lawrence. I love her as a person and as an actor.

HC: If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go?

I really have no idea where I would go! I’m planning on figuring that out once I have more than $100 dollars in my bank account.

HC: What is your favorite thing about Seattle University?

My favorite thing about Seattle University would have to be the people here. It is so easy to find yourself surrounded by amazing people and positive influences. I feel so lucky to have made the friendships that I have, and I am excited to see what my final year will bring.

HC: Who is your celebrity crush?

My celebrity crush would have to be Liam Hemsworth. I’m a die-hard Hunger Games and Miley Cyrus fan.

HC: What is your position in the nursing government?

I am part of the Student and Community Affairs Committee (SCAC) and serve as the Vice President of the 2015 native cohort nursing students. The other officers and I collaborate with the faculty and our peers, and work on various nursing events throughout the year! The most exciting event we help plan is the pinning ceremony at the end of the year.
