Name: Isaac Hecker

Major/Minor: Computer Science

Hobbies: Sings with Amazin’ Blue, founded the “I Got Your Back” (IGYB) club, and plays video games

Relationship Status: Single and ready to mingle

Her Campus: How did you get involved with Amazin Blue?

Isaac Hecker: I went to AcaRush my sophomore year and I saw them perform, thought they were cool, and auditioned for them. My audition song was “The Dwarf Song” from The Hobbit. I didn’t look them up beforehand or listen to any of their music, I just kind of signed up for auditions and went for it.

HC: Do you hold any leadership positions within the ensemble?

IH: I’m the secretary of the Michigan A Cappella Council. My primary duty, besides helping make decisions about social events and what it takes to be in the Michigan a cappella community, is taking notes at meetings and sneaking pizza into every meeting. Also, I communicate between all of the a cappella groups occasionally. But my voice really comes in with general decisions about the community.

HC: What are some cool things that people don’t know about Amazin Blue or a cappella groups in general?

IH: The a cappella community is actually very close to one another. You would think that these groups operate independently, but we do social events together, invite each other to our concerts, perform together, and even have mixers with other groups, like when Amazin’ Blue mixed with the G-Men. We’re actually a very tight-knit group.

HC: What’s one of your favorite songs that you’ve sung with Amazin Blue?

IH: “I Will Wait” by Mumford and Sons. It’s the best song that we had last year, and it’s a shame that it’s gone now because it was my favorite song, both to listen to and to sing. It was damn good.

HC: If you could sing with one famous artist, who would it be and why?

IH: Ben Folds because he was the artist who actually made me enjoy music. As a little kid, I didn’t like music and would ask my parents to turn off the radio because I didn’t like the noise. But after a few years went by, I listened to Ben Folds, got him on my iPod, and that was it. He’s been my favorite artist ever since then.

HC: If you had to marry one famous musician, who would it be and why?

IH: I’m a straight man who would gladly marry Freddie Mercury.

HC: Any last comments?

IH: Go Blue and go Amazin’ Blue!
