7 Reasons Why Fall is the Best Time to be a Terp

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Maryland chapter.

It’s true: fall is really among us, and with it come midterms and group projects and late study nights galore. But the fall semester definitely has its perks. Here’s a list for you  if you ever doubt the magic of College Park in autumn.

1. It’s tailgating season

Rise and shine, people! I know it’s the crack of dawn, but those mimosas aren’t going to drink themselves. 12 p.m. games…ya love to hate ’em. Who am I kidding? You just love ’em, along with every other football game you may or may not make it to.

2. Homecoming

Homecoming week is filled with fun activities like musical performances, skits performed by members of the Greek community, and a comedy show (Joel McHale!), all leading up to the big game on Saturday against Iowa.

3. The weather

I know this seems obvious, but Maryland autumns are beautiful. The changing leaves, the crisper air, the boys in flannels — a direct result of the weather. Oh, and not breaking a sweat on the walk to class. True bliss.

4. Halloween

Or should I say Halloweekend? You never know what you’ll see on any given night out in College Park — especially on Halloween. Whether the outfits are creative, provocative, or funny, somebody will appreciate your work.

5. Yoga pants

Whether you are a guy or a girl, I am sure you can agree that fall in College Park means yoga pants, and yoga pants mean happiness. I actually don’t remember the last time I wore a pair of jeans to class (or in general, but that’s another story).

6. Clubs are starting up

Now’s your chance to get out there and get involved on campus. Start boosting that resume. Branch out from your existing group of friends. Hopefully events like the First Look Fair helped you get an idea of something you’re interested in. If not…there’s always next semester?

7. Classes aren’t quite as stressful

Obviously you should be working hard in your classes, but it’s also first semester…which means you still have an entire spring semester to make sure your GPA is really where you want it before the end of the year. Or am I the only one who views it that way?

There you have it. During the semester, if you’re ever experiencing some summertime sadness, just reference this list to help you get out of that funk and fall back in love with autumn.
