Fall break is here at American University. However, it is only one day, so what can possibly feel very “break-ish” about a single day of no classes? Though it may seem difficult to imagine, there are some true benefits to not having class, even if only for one day. One day is one day more, so take advantage of the day off and consider doing one, a few, or all of the following:
-
Read some Her Campus American articles
-
Eat without rushing
-
Wake up without setting an alarm
-
If you have a lot of work, do it in peace, without breaking up your studying to run to and from classes
-
Take a long walk
-
Go to the gym (because you do not have class as an excuse) and try a new workout routine
-
Organize your room
-
Explore a new area of Washington, D.C.
-
Try a new restaurant
-
Watch a full season of a TV series
-
Go to the movie theater
-
Experiment with new hairstyles, nail polish, and/or makeup
-
Learn a song on an instrument
-
Read a book for leisure
-
Cook a meal you’ve always wanted to attempt (and hopefully, not burn down the kitchen)
-
Call someone you meant to call back a while ago
-
Have a long, face-to-face conversation with a friend
-
Spend some time disregarding the time
-
Daydream without feeling guilty for not paying attention to a lecture
-
Hug someone you love, without having to let go and run to class
These, and many more, will be much easier to do on Friday without the hassle of classes. Sure, you may have work, and it may just be one day out of our hectic schedules, but be sure to take some time to sit back, relax, talk, walk and take in the calmness of your fall break before jumping back into the rush.
