Fall things To Do Around Pittsburgh

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Pitt chapter.

Everyone’s favorite time of the year is upon us and there is no doubt we all want to enjoy this short, fall season as much as we possibly can.  Pittsburgh might arguably be one of the prettiest places to live in during the autumn months.  As a college student in this city, I am lucky enough to take advantage of everything it has to offer.  In order to share all of the benefits with you, I have made a list of some fun fall activities to do around the Pittsburgh area!

1. Pumpkin picking – It’s probably the one thing I really miss about home during this season.  No matter how old you are, it’s an activity that everyone can enjoy.  All you need is a friend to go with and a way to get there.  There are several pumpkin patches that are just a few miles from downtown Pittsburgh.  Although they may not be super close to campus or convenient to get to, it is definitely worth it to pay a visit this year!  You can share a cab with your friends and make a day of it.

2. Haunted Pittsburgh – With Halloween just around the corner, what better way to get excited for it than touring the most haunted parts of the city!  Haunted Pittsburgh offers different types of tours including the main downtown tour, the incline tour, and the Oakland tour.  The prices range from $15 to $20 and it’s a fun activity to do on a weekend night!  You will see a side of Pittsburgh that you probably didn’t know existed!

3. Kayak Pittsburgh – From what I’ve heard about it, this is one of the most valuable and memorable things to do in this city.  Located in the North Shore, it’s a perfect weekend activity for the rest of the month of October!  It’s extremely easy to learn and everyone gets a safety lesson before getting in the kayak.  This is something you should try before the weather gets cold. It’s a great photo opportunity as well!

4.  Football games and tailgates – As the weather gets a little cooler, it is much easier to enjoy a tailgate and football game without profusely sweating in the process.  As probably one of the most respected fall activities, you should go to at least one football game this season.  Even if you’re not into the sport, tailgating with your friends is an easy way to be spirited and a part of the excitement.  Plus, it’s always fun to get dressed up in Pitt gear to represent your team!

5. ScareHouse – If you haven’t heard of this haunted house yet, you need to check it out online or, better yet, in person!  Located in Etna, PA, just 8 miles from Pitt’s campus, ScareHouse is known as “America’s scariest Halloween attraction.”  There’s really nothing I can say about this place that will compare to the unbelievable reviews on its website.  I’m already planning a trip here with some of my friends towards the end of the month!
