Star of the Moment: Brenda Paredes

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UCLA chapter.

Brenda Paredes is one of UCLA’s brightest students and is an extremely talented, yet hardworking student. Always the overachiever, Brenda excels in her work ethics as well as always prioritizes her school work. A humble young lady, Brenda is driven towards success and will not let obstacles prevent her from achieving her goals.

  1. Do you have any plans for the near future, such as where you plan on going after graduation?

Although graduation is about 3 years away, I am hoping to become a grad student at UCLA School of Nursing. I also plan to volunteer with Peace Corps for 2 years either before or after grad school.

  1. What are your personal interests and/or hobbies (running, reading books, etc.)?

Aside from binge watching sitcoms and documentaries on Netflix, I enjoy hiking and bike riding. I also have my 2 dogs, Boomer and Charlie, who keep me happily busy. You can catch me at the L.A. Auto Show every year as well.

  1. What do you believe is the most important trait to have when becoming a young adult?

I believe that persistence is the most essential, if not necessary, trails to posses as a young adult. By being a persistent person, challenges and mistakes do not define you but rather help you grow. A persistent person never gives up on their aspirations or themselves.

  1. What is something you would like to see on campus more?

I would like to see more interracial and multi-interest unity on campus. Although most of us at UCLA are friends with people from different cultural backgrounds than our own, the reality is that the majority of our friends are ones that are from the same cultural background. I would definitely be happy to see a change in this.

  1. How do you feel you contribute to UCLA community?

I feel that I contribute my friendliness to the UCLA community. At my job with ASUCLA Restaurants, I interact with people from all over the UCLA community, whether a student, a professional or an avid visitor. Though our interactions are short, I enjoy talking to the customer about their day and telling them to have a nice day.
