How would you describe Xavier Singers?
Singers is a top notch performance group comprised of 12 members of all different majors, none of which are music related. “Singers” is really a misnomer. While we do sing, we also spend hours working on unique choreography and other aspects of quality performance.
Did you do something like this in high school?
I was heavily involved in my theatre and choir programs in high school. Singers is really a mix between the two. We’re more than a showchoir, but we’re not putting on a show with lines. Each show is truly a unique performance that has never been seen before and will never be seen again.
What is your favorite part about being in Singers?
My favorite part is creating a bond with such fantastic performers and people I never would’ve gotten to know without the group. We spend a lot of time together (approximately 9 hours a week or more) and really become close throughout the entire process.
What is your favorite song you’ve preformed and why?
My favorite song to perform would probably be “The Bro Duet.” It was a song about two best friends and their love for each other. I loved getting to sing it with Red Millerick who has become one of my best friends through involvement with Singers.
Do you ever get nervous or stage fright?
Right before a show there’s always a slight moment where I’m unsure if I’m truly prepared. Then I hear all the cheers from the audience before I ever hit the stage and know that I’m truly ready to give this audience an amazing performance.
Are there any weird Singer traditions that you guys do backstage?
Part of the traditions are that those outside Singers don’t know about them. Sorry!
Any upcoming events or shows that Xavier should know about?
We’re just finish up our fall semester show this weekend! The show is tonight, 7:00, in the Gallagher Theatre. We would love everyone to come out. Wear a costume and be at your party by 9! Student tickets are only $7! After this we’re hoping to have another performance this semester, probably involving some Holiday music. Either way we will be back at the end of next semester with a whole new show to please our audiences with!
Favorite song: “Mr. Brightside” by The Killers
Favorite food: Spaghetti and Meatballs
Fun fact about you: I’ve dressed as Harry Potter on at least ten separate occasions.
