Her Campus College Fashion Week Chicago 2014

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Illinois State chapter.

Have you ever wanted to experience a fashion show? College Fashion Week hosted by Her Campus gives collegiates a chance to not only attend a fashion show, but be in one as well!

This year, College Fashion Week is being held in four different cities including Boston, New York City, Chicago, and San Francisco. People from campuses throughout all four regions could apply to be a model, dancer, or singer in the shows. Anyone could also apply to be on the guest list to attend one of the shows as well. To apply to be a model, requirements included an Instagram selfie, a few hashtags, and some measurements. I was one of 20 girls chosen to model in the Chicago show, and I have some great coverage of the event!

Before the day of the fashion show, BareMinerals (one of the sponsors) held a pre-show primping party at their store in the Water Tower Place in Chicago. The party included a DJ, cupcakes, makeup applications, and discounts on all of the products. Everyone who attended the party enjoyed themselves and got some great makeup tips from professionals. I was also able to meet and chat with one of the founders of Her Campus, Windsor Western!

The day of the event was filled with excitement, freebies, and photographers. Doors opened around 6:00 p.m. and about 100 guests arrived, making the event a full house. Before the fashion show began, models were able to get our hair and makeup done by professional stylists from TRESemmé, as well as makeup artists from BareMinerals. Other sponsors included the European Wax Center, Simon Premium Outlets, and Luna.

When the event began, dancers from the University of Illinois at Chicago performed an exciting jazz/hip-hop routine to get the show started. Shortly after, it was time for the catwalk! The clothes featured during the show were by BooHoo, a fashion brand based in the UK. There were three scenes throughout the show including Imperial, Brooklyn Princess, and Woodlanders. I was given the opportunity to model two out of the three looks. Being able to be a model in the show was so much fun! Along with free makeup, hair products, coupons, professional photos, and other goodies, I was able to feel like a celebrity for a day. If you’ve always wanted a chance to be a model or are just looking to get out of your comfort zone, I strongly encourage girls from all shapes and sizes to apply next year! If you don’t think modeling is your forte, then I also suggest everyone to apply to attend the event for an entertaining show and to receive some fabulous freebies.
