Suffolk Rainbow Alliance: Drag Show

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Suffolk chapter.

On Wednesday, October 29, Suffolk Rainbow Alliance held its annual Drag Show as one of the final events for LGBTQ History Month. The doors, which were going to open at 7, opened at 7:15 and it was worth the wait! Tables and chairs were set up, and snacks were available to us along with drinks. After warming the crowd up with some LGBTQ history trivia the Queens came out. Our host, Ms. Crystal Crawford, welcomed everyone with her opening number and jokes.

Throughout the night we were introduced to two other Drag Queens, Rainbow Fright and Misery, and one Drag King, Mr. Tyler. The Queens danced and lip synced to songs of great female singers like Cher, Iggy Azalea, Britney Spears, and Donna Summer. While Mr. Tyler took care of songs like “Locked Out of Heaven” by Bruno Mars and “Baby I’m Amazed by you” by Tim McGraw.

All the Queens and Kings had the audience belly laugh with their sexual innuendos and outgoing personalities. Before the night was over there was a dance competition. The Queens picked out six people from the audience and had them get on the stage and “shake what they got”. The final two contestants had skittles thrown at them. This was my first time at a drag show and it was one I will never forget!
