Hometown: Sarasota, FL

Meet Emma Walsh; a Florida State freshman whose favorite things include the woods, tea, and books. Emma is already exploring her major through mentoring students at the local elementary school, and loves being able to work with kids in the Tallahassee community. HerCampus had the chance to speak with this inspirational and passionate Collegiette!

HerCampus (HC): How has your experience with working with elementary students in your first college semester been?

Emma Walsh (EW): I was initially drawn to FSU because of the opportunities to become involved in classrooms right away. I get to mentor students three times a week and it’s been a great experience. I’m able to gain a better understanding of the local schools and give to the community while doing what I love.

HC: What’s your favorite thing about FSU or Tallahassee in general so far?

EW: Honestly, I’ve really loved meeting new people. It’s always great to share common interests with others. I’ve been fortunate in discovering those people pretty early on here.

HC: What’s your guilty pleasure TV show?

EW: As deeply problematic as it may be, I’m going to go with Teen Wolf, but How To Get Away With Murder and Orphan Black are moving up on the list.

HC: If you were an animal, what would you be and why?

EW: A goose. I know, it’s a strange answer, but I’m very protective of my friends and I love to travel! Not to mention my lack of coordination…

HC: What’s your favorite mode of transportation?

EW: Bike or car. I’m always down for a road-trip with good friends.

HC: If you could go on a vacation without having to worry about spending any money, where would you go?

EW: Nice, France.

HC: Anything in particular you would want to do while there?

EW: Well I went in my sophomore year of high school and I’ve always wanted to go back. The city is beautiful and right on the water. I think I would just want to wonder about and explore.
