Meet this week’s Campus Celebrity, Jacob Mackey, a 21-year old adventure-loving junior from Williamsport, Pennsylvania.
As a Government and World Affairs and History double major, a member of Delta Epsilon Iota, Student Council, Residence Life, and the Honors Council, you can imagine Jacob has a lot on his plate. But he finds himself fortunate to be so involved at UT, and is thankful for all of the opportunities that his involvement has afforded him.
Jacob’s favorite part of UT is the size and feel of the campus. He loves being able to walk around campus and always see someone he knows, and being able to connect with the people he sees on a day to day basis on a deeper level.
Need some inspiration? Jacob’s life motto is: “What doesn’t challenge you doesn’t change you,” reminding us all that the obstacles we experience in life are only helping better us as individuals in this world.
If Jacob could meet one person living today he would choose Joshua Wong, an activist in Hong Kong leading the pro-democracy protests in the streets. Wong is an inspiration because he is so young, and is fighting so passionately against the Chinese government, which is very admirable and inspiring that just one person can have such a large impact.
As for his accomplishments? Jacob says, “Any instance where I have been able to have a direct positive impact on someone is a great moment, and there’s not just one instance where this has occurred.”
Even though Jacob has a lot on his plate, he knows how to unwind. If he could spend a Saturday doing whatever he wanted, he would check climbing Mt. Everest off of his bucket list because it is something so few people get to do.
Jacob’s favorite possession is a silver chain bracelet he received for Christmas from his grandmother one year. He wears it every day and believes it brings him luck.
